Hello, long time lurker, first time poster. Just got me a V6 bird in fairly decent condition for a college car. I partly got a third gen because I loved the looks, and I wanted something I could learn to work on, because I had an abysmal knowledge of cars. I've been working on her a bit and have encountered something beyond my limited knowledge of an engine.

There's some kind of a black cord or cable attached to the top of the engine. She still runs, but the SES light is tripped. However the SES light will go off sometimes while driving.

I uploaded some pictures of where it attaches to the engine. You can also see the piece that is to the left of the block. If anyone can look at this and tell me what I broke that would help me SO much.

looks like u broke the vacum line for the map sensor

Ah, that makes sense, thank you. Is there a place to go for a replacement? I couldn't find anything online.

its called vacuum hose, imagine that ! , you can use some of the old plastic hardline to insert into the plenum nipple and the map nipple. it looks like you will need to remove and extract the broken piece on the plenum side.

Its hard for me to believe that the car even runs if that map reference hose if broken but i its just cracked i guess it may still run. Your best to just find a junk yard for the original piece. Or you can use just use the smallest(1/4 inch or 1/8th inch), hardest, vacuum line you can, then to connect it from the intake port to the map sensor.

Fabricated a piece to work here. Once I knew what it did it wasn't hard to get some similar sized vacuum tubes and shrink rap them together to form a new tube. Now there is a nice bright yellow hose in a 22 year old engine bay!
