Car: 1987 Camaro
Engine: V6
Possible ECM problem
I bought a 1990 camaro so i can resell it since it was so cheap. in my effort to get it running for some extra cash i plugged the ecm of my 1987 camaro into the 1990 camaro thinking it would bypass the 1990+ camaro security system. it did not work. so today i put a new starter in my car and put the ECM back in and now my car runs like total crap. it stutters and backfires when i give it gas now and when i try doing the code test the cars check engine light no longer flashes or even turns on for that matter. Is it possible that by putting the 87 ECM into the 90 camaro i screwed the computer up?

It shouldn't. If I were to guess you had a fuel or vats issue and swapping the ecu's was irreverent.

Are you saying that you took the ecm out of a pre 1990 v6 car and put it into a 1990 V6? Swaping out computers isn't that easy exspecially when your talking a Mass Air Flow car (1987) to a Speed density car(90-92)
I cant say for certain that your messed anything up but for future reference do some research before swaping ecms. Because MAF and speed density are so much different let alone the 7730 ecm in the 1990-92 thirdgens is a whole different one then they 302 one you had in the 1987.

It's possible. The pinouts are probably very different, so you could have shorted something in the ECM when you plugged it into the 1990 harness.
Does the CE light not even come on when you first turn on the car? If not, then that does imply the ECM might be dead.

first easy thing, open the ECM and look for burnt sectino of the board. That can help clue in to what popped.

You need a new ECM for your '87. And hopefully none of the sensor or actuators in the '90 car is toast...
