Damn.

So I was doing my valve covers on my 91 rs 3.1 (awful job btw) and someone suggested I soak my injectors in seafoam while I do the job. So I did and replaced o rings after doing so. Now I have a rough idle when the car is warm... I'm so confused.
I have a new set of plugs coil and ignition control module that I'm changing monday. But idk if thats going to be it. Any ideas on what I did?
Also I seafoamed the vacuum today to see if that would help. Alot of smoke came from around the lower part my engine as well as the exhaust. Leads me to believe I have an exhaust manifold leak? ><

Re: Damn.

Isn't the likely explanation of the rough idle that you buggered an O-ring when you messed with them?

Its much less unlikely that "doing the valve covers" (I assume you mean replacing the valve cover gaskets) has anything to do with idle.

I suppose you could have outright damaged an injector in the process.
Assuming you didn't have idle issues before the "O-ring job," I'd guess the problem to be an O-ring before I'd try to pin it on the injector itself.

Re: Damn.

true. idk. its completely possible i did. i had a rough idle problem in the past but it seemed to go away.
im thinking about just getting new ones from southbay but i cant seem to find ones for a stock 3.1.
(the old injectors are the ones that came with it in 1991 its at 200k miles now and had a rusted fuel tank i had to replace.)

and yeah i meant valve cover gaskets lol. my bad.

Re: Damn.

Oh, it is quite possible that the valve covers have an issue... I've found the factory torque spec to be quite bogus and that the nuts have to be tightened a lot more than that.

I hope you only soaked the injector bodies in the cleaner and not completely submerged them (as in the electrical connector under the surface of the cleaner)... If you got cleaner in the injector electrics, you could have messed them up.

BTW, there was a set of 14084888 injectors on eBay not too long ago. But try replacing the o-rings first.

I've tried ebay injectors before. Never good.

Funny enough I totally did soak the electrical connectors as well. Was told by an ase master tech(my teacher at school) that it was ok to soak the connectors as well. Idk. I just said **** it. Ordered some from south bay. I was told dish soap was good to lube the injector o rings? Anyone else heard that?

Re: Damn.

Um, these are brand new never installed... But I see you already ordered some, so...

And most ASE master techs don't have common sense... Electrical parts seldom like solvent.

Just use oil from the dipstick to lube the rings.

Alright. Thanks for the info. I'm ready for this car to actually run right and get more than 18mpg >< fixing problems though has gotten me from 10 mpg though.
