90 Firebird cuts out around 3,000 RPM
My 2.8 Firebird has starting dropping power around 3,000 RPM (like turning the key off and then back on) it will throw a SES light and be ok if you let the RPM back down.
I was thinking maybe a throttle postion sensor????
Keeping your foot in it at 3,000 would cause it to actually stall.
Not sure it is the postion of the throttle or the RPM that causes the problem.

if you have a spare ignition coil and module I'd throw them in there and see if your problem goes away...

These things weren't replaced to try and fix the problem...just letting you know what was updated.
Think I have a buyer for it now anyway, but I'd like to give him as much help as possible.

Re: 90 Firebird cuts out around 3,000 RPM
With the RPM cutoff, sounds like a clogged cat (old convertor = pellet bed breaks up and disintegrates) or exhaust to me. To test, disconnect the exhaust at the catalytic convertor- if the car runs past 3000 rpm, the exhaust was clogged.
Otherwise I'd check ignition timing- if you find out it's way advanced (stock is only 10 degrees advance), check the spark plugs for detonation (missing pieces).

Bad injectors can do this... I know the hard way. Shop swore it was a bad convertor, it was a bad injector. A rebuilt set got me going great!
