2.8L to 2.8L mod

ok here is my problem. My son is doing a swap with a 1984 Camaro 2.8L with a stroked and bored 1985 S10 2.8L. One issues we are having is the fuel pump location on tne new engine does not seem to have the same input for the mechanical fuel pump. Is it electric? I checked and it seems to be mechanical as well not the same but close even though the model # are different. I'm not with the car right now but I was just there and unfortunatly did not check. all other parts have been just like others have said. no problems and switch right over.

Searched and could not find good inexpensive aluminum valve covers any ot there?

Allso there there an upgraded clutch kit. Its for a manual 5 speed.

Any opinions/links would be great.

Thanks....................

Re: 2.8L to 2.8L mod

As long as the 85 S10 block has the provisions for the mechanical fuel pump, you should be able to install your Camaro pump on it. If the S10 was TBI, then it shouldn't have the hole cut for the FP and you'll have to get a and electric pump and regulator to feed the motor.

As for the V/C, I think the best bet is to try a J/Y for a set of Fiero lids. They are nicer than the stock ones and can use the rubberized gaskets that don't leak as much as the cork ones.

For the clutch...don't bother. You're wasting money. Unless you're putting out over 300 ft/lbs, then you shouldn't have an issue, and if you are putting out 300+, then you're going to break input shafts long before your clutch gives out.

Thanks for the info. You are right it was TBI so no hole for the fuel pump. I'll search the threads but if anyone knows off the top of there heads which pump and regulator works best it would be a help. I think the PSi was 5-6 for the carb but will try and check.
Will get a stock clutch kit and do I need to do any mods for the Fiero valve covers? From what I saw they have one hole in each and ours have two breathers and one for the oil cap.

Re: 2.8L to 2.8L mod

Ked85 had installed an inline fuel pump on his blazer. May want to search his user name and see if he posted what it came from (stock part). He is no longer with us But anyone who has installed a 3.4 with a carb has had to do this mod. :edit: He used an inline fuel pump from an Opel

V/C's. Fiero is the only one who has alumns. I have heard they dont fit 1.6 rockers though? Only "mod" that I remember is that you have to remove your v/c studs, and go get some 6mm-1.00x?? bolts from your local "help" section that have the larger washers built in. Come in packages of 2. Your stock nuts are to small and will just pull down thru the large openings.

I'll 2nd the clutch. I was running a stock clutch on my s10 with a 3.4, and my camaro with a 3.4 and drove both like hell. Never had a problem.

Re: 2.8L to 2.8L mod

Sounds good. 72 gph should be more than you ever need for this thing.

Re: 2.8L to 2.8L mod

Nope. You want a little overkill, that way you know you won't have a flow problem. If you go too small, you risk losing pressure, resulting in running issues. Take that one and RUN!
