So i wan driving home to night and i looked down at my volt gauge and noticed it was at about 9 or 10 maybe lower just border line in the red then slowly kept droped till it was all the way down. Volts its normaly around the middle like 13 or just above. Exept when the head lights are on and the blinker makes it fliker up and down a bit. Well any way i watched it slowly keep dropping i shut my raidio off and started watching my lights keep getting dimmer. Wondering if ill make it back to my house in the next quarter mile and two four way stop. No cars were coming. So i just went through. then the car bucked a little i was in therd thought it died. I downed in to second and flored it real quick to get the rest of the way. It bucked a couple more times then just took of like normal. Then i through in just befor the down shift it smelt like somthing was kinda burning. I just got back got in my truck and brough my friend home in that. 20 min later i get back home open the hood just to check the belt real quick turn my key volt wher just a bit below 13 started right up i turned the lights on every thing was normal. Then i glanced back down at the meter and it was almost in the red again. So i just shut it off. Ill have to go check it out when i have some day light i guess. But if my altinator went and i had drained my battery to the point where i bearly made it home how did i turn the key to acc and read about 12 volts and then start it no problem. It didnt even hesitateto start and it ran fine. oh and the head light where just as bright as always. Im kinda confused the only thing that crosses my mind is a short any other ideas though.

ok so i just got home opened the hood took a quick peak. nothing out of the ordinary. Went and started the car and it started right up.it idaling and the volts read about ten im going to un hook the battery and see what hapens but i sure didnt think it would start and run after driving a ways with a dead altinator?

well in fact it was just the alternator. I guess the battery recovered over night. Thast why it probably started up right away. but the gauge droped after a while. So i guess i just over reacted.
