Hitting the Junkyard tomorrow...

Will the fuel injectors from a 350 work on the 2.8L? And if they do, does the computer need to be reprogrammed?

Going to the local junkyard tomorrow to look at a few cars. Anything I should look out for to get that will help with performance for my 2.8L Camaro?

Re: 350 fuel injectors for 2.8L

Yes, but why do you want them? Reprogramming is always a good idea, but not neccecarily needed. Look for the 'Ditch your stock injectors!' thread.

Re: 350 fuel injectors for 2.8L

I'm modifying my car on a dime. Hitting local junkyards (starting tomorrow) and picking up anything that will help mine gain more power. I don't think my fuel injectors are in good condition. Lots need to be replaced on the engine. I've bought some new bolt-ons, but it's proving to be too much money right now.

Re: Hitting the Junkyard tomorrow...

The answer is yes that the 350 injectors will fit and spray, but no, they won't work. Your engine will run like crap due to the excess fuel being sprayed, and you're better off without the injectors for the price you will pay for them. I have a set from a 305 (350 is even bigger, as you obviously know) that gave me nothing but problems. Yes, you will notice a change in the exhaust note. This is because of the excess fuel being burned in the converter as opposed to the cylinders, and you will kill your nice expensive cat if you run them.

The question is, would you rather pay for the injectors ($10 a piece at my favorite yard) and then HAVE to shell out another $120 for a catalytic converter, or would you rather do it right and get a set from a 3.4 or something (3100, etc) (little bit bigger, WILL throw a rich code until you get some more parts in the mix and the ECM retuned, but not too bad in terms of excess fuel) and not have to replace the cat sooner than you would expect?

Other than that, there really isn't much in the way of performance parts that you will find in a junkyard that just fit, unless you happen upon a Trueleo intake, headers, or a turbo/supercharger (highly unlikely, but it CAN happen). If you can afford it, you might want to look into newer heads and the matching upper end from a FWD car... But, then, you'd also have to nab the harness, power steering pump, and the damper pulley to go with it.

Re: Hitting the Junkyard tomorrow...

I've been looking into it and doing a 3.4 swap, so i'll be using the 3.4 injectors.

Thanks for all the help!
