Is your V6 hauling *** too?
It seems to me with all this talk of V6 Camaros being quite slow, that mine has proven to be quite a fighter. Two examples, I raced my friend's '03 (i think it's '03) Acura RSX Turbo. Distance was probably 1/4th mile, and right up until the end I had half a car lead. He took off faster but I caught up, my car auto his semi auto.
And last night, ran into a cocky SN95 Mustang GT. (Had GT badges at least, definitely sounded like the 8 cyl. as well. However there are a lot of "fakes" in my area) From the green light we hit it and I stayed right with him through 1st and 2nd. 3rd he began to walk, as expected
My mods to the engine are a Flowmaster catback, 80 series muffler (DOR), aftermarket fuel injectors (not sure on brand/specs for them, my mechanic threw them in during an oil change for 20 bucks), and K&N air filter. Hope to be K&N intake kit soon.
Anyway...do any of you guys have a rather quick 6? From what I've done to the car, not much, I wouldn't think to improve the 6's performance too well, and I don't think there's much more to do while staying n/a.

I don't think Rsx came with a turbo stock, do they? I know my buddy in a 5.0 mustang bone stock lost to a Turboed RSX.
I am not going to rag on you, I mean my buddy with an 87 RS with a 5 Speed (3.42 open rear) could chirp 3rd... No joke. I was amazed.

Re: Is your V6 hauling *** too?
Daaaaaammmmnn third! Wow!
His RSX came with the base 4 cyl, but I know he bought and installed a sweet turbo for it. Has a super loud BOV too, the thing is a beauty. He's going for the Type-S upgrade I think (Type-S came with turbo stock I believe) and had everything down except badging and suspension when we raced.
Another thing for my car, I can spin the rear wheels when I'm doing a 5-10mph roll straight line as well, new tires as of late December on dry asphalt. I have no idea if this is the norm or what, figured I'd just post it anyway.

I can spin my drag radials at 30 MPH on dry street . I wouldn't mind picking up a cheap 3.1 camaro and slapping a turbo on it though...

Drag radials though, things are like bare ***! Haha
And yes, a 3.1 turbo is a sweeeet setup. I wouldn't pay for it though, running on 161K miles, engine rebuilt 10,000 ago but still, I'm afraid the damn thing will blow up

I wouldn't know about drag radials at all so forgive me. I've only seen pictures and they just look like worn out tires with no tread. But damn 40 mph? A V6?

these engines are really underrated. you can pick them up for so much cheaper than a V8. everyone wants a v8, but if your willing to settle, you'll be suprised. my camaro will chirp 2nd. that thing is fast as hell. my dad had a 305 and he said mine is about as fast as his was. nice.

Re: Is your V6 hauling *** too?
Haha I feel like an idiot, car specs in the sig, D'oh!
As for my car plans, nothing too big. I'd like to just replace/clean what I've got in there. I'd love love LOVE to swap the 700r4 for the T-5, found a decent one for 400, but I don't have the kind of money for that installation right now. Besides as soon as I go to college they don't allow cars freshman year so it'll be sitting for a bit.
And yeah chevyracingrox, I agree. They're pretty sweet, sound really well especially with an aftermarket exhaust (most people that ask about my car think it's an 8), and those RPM's jump up really quick.

I beat a Vtec Civic a couple weeks back. He must have sucked with a clutch...because my Camaro wasn't running good. Nothing but kids with their rice burning tuners here, all thinking they're in the Fast & Furious movies. And jerks driving their mustangs, thinking they own the road because they have a Ford...some people, eh? But at least we'll have the last laughs, beating them with our third-gen V6's!

Well mine's certainly no brute, but I can burn the tires and spank on L03 cars. Not that the tbi 305's are anything special by v8 standards (lethargic, actually), especially weighed down & undergeared as many are.

I think the RSX was messing with you too. 500 lbs lighter, and 50 hp more stock. With a turbo it could have easily twice your hp while being lighter. Granted, its lame fwd, but unless your buddy really sucks with a manual, even a stock base RSX should have taken you.

for comparison...my 01 ford ranger with 165k miles, completely stock 2.3L 5 spd on the original clutch, o2 sensors, everything...would chirp 3rd gear. i don't know if you guys have noticed it or not, but chirping tires ain't what it used to be. fwiw the truck went 16.9 @ 80 on a 2.59 60'...punishing the passenger side rear tire for like 100' off the line.

Matter of fact, I passed up a deal on a '98 GT for my Camaro And I'm really happy I did. This car is a lot more fun, and not too common in my area, unlike the Mustang. I'm asked about it a lot at gas stations and the like.
More abundant than Mustangs, however, are your rice burners. Yesterday I ran into a '92 Corolla sedan (google image that - seriously) with a Racing Spoiler and a fart can. I mean I'm all for liking what you've got and doing the way you want, but it still made me laugh.
However I must confess I'm a closet case Cobra lover. Need to drive one of those in this lifetime!

Oh the Cobras are nice, no doubt about that (I prefer the Saleens). I've seen Geo Metros with spoilers and those "fart cans," as well as the Corolla. I don't know if those kids think they are cool, or they have discovered some kind of fluke in the car world and these cars are super fast with bolt-on spoilers and exhaust tips. Who knows...

Haha I didn't even include the Saleens, those things are amazing! I also love the Mach 1's. Scary fast cars.
I've only seen one Saleen around here, and it had a Stalker kit. Blacked out, rims, windows, lights....the thing was a monster on the road. Loved every second of it.

Best thing we have in local dealerships is a sweet GT-500 KR at a Ford dealership, unless you want to count a superdealership in Jersey about 20-30 mins away that carries exotics.

ew, mustangs. I got a friend that loves mustangs, but guess what. he has a V6 camaro. as much as he doesn't like it he's neglected it and taken it through hell and back. it finally died and has really low fuiel pressure. I got to drive his auto V6 before I had mine running. even if his tranny mount wasn't shot(lol, really bad) I would have stomped him though. T5 makes a big difference.

haha, yea. the T5 is like 200 lbs lighter than a 700R4. so not only do you get overdrive, the fun of a manual, and more control of your car's torque output, but also less weight. you can find less than 400 for a T5. look for 200 or 300 instead. I'm telling you, the difference is night and day.

Damn you're way too convincing. I want one so bad. My Automatic has overdrive too, btw. I love it!
But seriously, manual not only gives you more power to your car but it makes driving so much more fun.

Just did another search and found one for 100, but it's for the V-8 models...lame...only other T-5's are from Mustangs.
How much do you think a swap would be in installation fees? If you can guess.

Re: Is your V6 hauling *** too?
I could chirp 3rd about every time that I tried to with my stock tires, 3.42's, and T5. Just means I wasn't getting traction. Found out my torque arm bracket bushing was shot when I swapped out the rear(rear blew up). I haven't really got on it yet very hard but with the new torque arm bracket poly bushing along with the 3.23s it hardly spins through 2nd and seems quicker. Not near as jerky but thats the bushing working.
The V6/T5 does seem a little quick. Probably a little faster than my old 305-LG4/700r4/2.73 combo in my other car. My V6 lost to a stock '88 T/A with 305-TBI/T5/3.23 though.

Off subject, but is it normal to see a dodge caravan with dual exhaust and sound like it's a V8? And to top it off, it had a hot wheels paint job and some soccer mom driving it...
wonder what it would be like to race that...

Vans suck...and dual exhaust? V8? I don't think it's physically possible to fit a V-8 into a Caravan engine bay....maybe V6? Should've smoked him d00012!

Re: Is your V6 hauling *** too?
V6's are ok for what they are
But they still are 2 cyl shy of an engine that can
Until then they are the engine that could!
Advancements in v6 performance aside, you are still trying to move about 3750 pounds with 6 cylinders
An RSX turbo or a mustang 5.0 against a v6 f body ?????
You would have to have the turbo GTA, and then you would wipe the floor with them

These V6s have potential though. And 6 cylinders is better than moving the same weight with an I4.

Re: Is your V6 hauling *** too?
Dont the 305's make 165 hp on super while the v6's make 135 on regular? I wouldent buy the v8 for 30 hp... The whole reason I bought the v6 though was because I have heared from other people they are way more reliable and better built than the v8s.

The V6s were ok or average for the day. Compared to cars today they are very weak. My stock 2.4L Cobalt auto runs 15.6---would just murder a stock V6 3rd gen.
I wouldn't mind modding one just for fun though...I used to own a 2.8L automatic 86 Camaro.

shakenbake is obviously new. He appears to be unaware there were 2 V8's. He's talking about the 5.0 TBI. The TPI was the more popular V8 and made over 200 horse.
I've beat some Cobalt's and lost to a few. I'm guessing the I4's were the ones I beat. My friend has a 91 Cavalier, paint all faded with no muffler and a glasspack. We go around and rev 'er up next to sti's and other such ricers, usually they think we're serious about a race so they take off. Best quote I ever got from the driver of a rice burner was as he leaned out his window and said "my grandpas grocery getter could beat that trailer trash piece of s***".

Yeah, I get weird looks from people when I used to drive a 99 Pontiac Grand Prix GT. Like I was driving some kind of granny car or something. It's had several modifications to have the same horsepower as the GTP. So by no means was it slow. And my camaro, I had to replace the door (different color) so it looks kind of trashy. I've had people laugh when I pull up next to them and rev my engine.

Re: Is your V6 hauling *** too?
A guy that comes to my shop thinks his caravan is a hotrod for some reason. He'll stand on the gas and burn up his tires just for fun. I watched him do it one day and he actually fried the crap out of his brand new tires. Billowing smoke, chunks of tire flying, the whole stupid van shaking. It was quite a sight, I'm suprised he didn't blow a tire because he ripped on it for a good 5 mins. Not much left of them when he was done.
