tranny mount problem PLEASE HELP!!!

Ok i have an 89 2.8l with the 5 speed manual. my tranny mount broke and i need a new one well aperantly the mount i need was only used from 88-89. the only place i can get it is from the dealer and it is $211.89 YES that is corect it is not a typo. I was wondering if the 5 speed in the 89 is the same as one from an 87. If so could i just get a crossmember off an 87 and use a normal tranny mount that cost between 7 and 20 bucks. However i would also need to know if a crossmember out of an older car wold bolt on to my 89. If no one can help me im just going to see if the mount that will fit an 82-87 set up will fit on my tranny and welld a plate on my crossmember so i can bolt it on. My crossmember has a big hole where the mount goes and the mount is 2 pieses, its round and the part on the tranny has a rubber cone that comes off of it and sits in the other round cup that goes on the crossmember. its really strange and i need some help i dont really want to spend that much on a tranny mount. it will be half that to get a crossmember from a junk yard and get the older normal looking mount.

I have no idea but have you checked the junk yards for a mount that fits your car? Also see if you can get one built to work. A lot of shops can fabricate something for you.

Get an auto trans mount and crossmember and save yourself major money when it comes time to replace the thing... It all bolts up the same and saves some weight at the same time.

Re: tranny mount problem PLEASE HELP!!!

I run an 85 T5 with my factory auto crossmember and transmission mount... It bolts up exactly the same (and I still have the other T5 crossmember and mount in my garage awaiting being thrown out).

:edit: Oh, and $15 to replace the mount once in a while sure beats close to $300, doesn't it?

Maverick H1L was correct but to add to that Idid the same conversion myself a few years ago and I believe it even stiffened the ride up.

Re: tranny mount problem PLEASE HELP!!!

I found a replacement on the Performance Suspension Technologies website that is a LOT cheaper than what the dealer wants for the stock T5 mount (and is also polygraphite that will almost never break with our little sixes). I forgot exactly how much, but it's less than $100...

Re: tranny mount problem PLEASE HELP!!!

I have an 87 T-5 that I have just bought. Noticed when driving it home that the tranny was jumping about a lot when accelerating hard, so me thinks the tranny mount is bust. Have not been under the beast yet (too damn cold out). However, are these hard to replace ?.Will I notice right away when I get under the car where the mount is ?.This is my first post on this forum (yeah, breaking my ThirdGen Virginity).Thanks,Rhys.
