91 3.1 camaro wierd error code
I have a 180 degrees thermostat, so my temperture stays there as long as im driving the car.
now every tie I stand in trafic and my temperature reaches 197 degrees the check engine light comes on and stays on until my temparture falls back under 185 degrees.
anyone has an idea what this could be ?

Engine: 5.7L/60 degree
Transmission: both 700r4
Axle/Gears: 2.73 lsd and 3.23, respectively

reading the codes would be a good start....
use the paper clip trick if you don't have a code reader...

OK you peaked my interest
So I grabbed my Camaro manual and I'm going to blind bet that it's a code 14/ Engine overheating.

but the temp of the normal thermostat is a 195 degree thermostat,
the fan comes on standard at 227 degrees or something.

I know but that is that is the only one I could find with temp that looks like what you said but like nd4spd42085 said get the code read and you'll know for sure.

ok, completely new radiator, filed it up with water, and still have the weird error. between 188 en 200 degrees I get an error code when I'm standing still in trafic.
when I'm driving and the temp goes under 188 degrees, the error goes away again.
