MAF or the associated relay are going south... I have that same problem each time it's time to replace either/or.

Yes almost always the MAF will set a code, and they are pretty shitty designs, they go out a lot on the V6-heated film type. But i'd say at at first it sounds like maybe IAC, but that usually only affects the idle, and it doesnt matter if its warm or cold, so thats strange. good luck

Re: car not wanting to start
It's funny how my MAF never throws a code when malfunctioning, only when it's disconnected, which is a code 34, although it has shot a code 33 at me once... Take the thing out and look at the film inside it, with a light reflecting off of it. If it looks like water on a lake, aka wavy, replace it. It should be perfectly flat.
Oh, and you may want to go out and get a can of MAF sensor cleaner to clean the film. That may help, and it may not. And, please read carefully: DO NOT, FOR ANY REASON, TOUCH THE FILM with anything other than the cleaner. Direct the cleaner spray into the OUT end and out the INLET end so as not to mess up the electrics.

Re: car not wanting to start
I'm thinking 3 things here:
1. Still thinking MAF problem. You don't have to have any money to examine the film inside the sensor... Just take it out and look at it.
2. Coolant temp sensor, next to the thermostat housing, is another possibility.
3. Tiny vacuum leak. My car originally had a MASSIVE vacuum leak because ALL of the lines had rotted. Symptoms include bad fuel economy, stalling, hesitation. I had been getting around 5 (no, that's not a typo) MPG...
Has the car ever thrown any codes at you that you recall? If so, which ones?
