T5 trans mount replacement question

Hello, I'm having a difficult time locating a rear transmission mount for my 88 2.8 T5 5spd. It seems all of my local auto suppliers show not available. Are these special? Can the standard trans mount you find on most autos work if I modifiy my trans xmember? Does it have to be a certain mounting height to keep proper driveshaft angle?

Re: T5 trans mount replacement question

I don't think that GM makes them anymore so the mount is really expensive from what I understand. I read somewhere on here that you can modify a mount from a V8 and crossmemeber to work fine.

Re: T5 trans mount replacement question

I used a stock automatic crossmember(v6 at that), used the standard poly mount. Bolted up fine to a t5. IIRC it wont bolt to the 5sp crossmember.

Re: T5 trans mount replacement question

Yes you can get rid of that shitty fluid filled trans mount, and replace it with a poly one. I replaced mine with a poly one, but i needed a V8 crossmember, it think. But with the new crossmember, it worked perfectly. I think you can get just a poly trans mount from summit or jegs for cheap, or your local parts store might have one, i got a energy suspesion one, it works great. btw my car is a 5 speed v6 car

Re: T5 trans mount replacement question

If the 88 is the same as my 92 gm said it was like $250.00 I mod my stock cross member for the old 1 bolt style.

Re: T5 trans mount replacement question

I used 3 peices of 1/4 steel and welded up an adapter to use the auto mount. The T5 Mount is hydraulic and is no longer available. Good luck.
