V6 Exhaust Sound Clips

I don't think anyone has posted any before, or at least my search didn't turn up any threads with V6's. Im looking for a 3.1L V6 with a nice exhaust. I want to get a Magnaflow (I recently purchased another V6 to swap into my Firebird because I really miss driving her. This way I can enjoy her while I build my V8), but Ill take sound clips of anything.

Magnaflow or Dynomax I heard sounds good on our cars. But the Flowmaster is too raspy and high pitched.

Flowmaster - got this one off a guy on cardoman...convinced me to never put a flowmaster on my car.

Yeah, that totally confirms that I will not be purchasing a Flowmaster Exhaust. Im really thinking about getting a Magnaflow.

How much did your glasspack cost you? ... Sorry to be a nub, but what exactly is a glasspack, and what did you have to change out in/around/on the pipes/muffler/cat convertor?

Is it street legal? Did you keep the cat? Dual Cats? Did you keep the muffler? Dual Mufflers? Do you have Dual pipes at the rear?

...biggest of all: Do you see smoke/crap out of the tail pipes or is it clear?

Thanks,
ScottieB

It cost me roughly $30.. A glasspack is basically a hollow pipe with some baffling in it, to my knowledge atleast.. I put it in place of my cat.. It is street legal for me, depends on your state/laws.. No cat, no muffler 2 1/2 inch mandrel bent pipe after the glasspack exits where it would connect to the muffler.. No smoke or anything unless I downshift or it backfires.. Be prepared to hear alot of backfiring when downshifting.. There are some loud ones so try not to get scared lol

What if I put it before/after the Cat? not the same effect? BTW I live in Texas, A little north of Dallas, Tx.

My grandpa is a welder, so it wouldn't be too hard to fit it in

I have no clue, I assume it would sound differant.. I dont think Texas cops would mind, but I dont know the laws there, best bet is to go ask a cop whats legal and what isnt..

Put a load on the glasspack @4000rpm and up going down the street from behind the car and I garantee it sounds like crap- beware buying one.

Dynomax ultra-flo and flowmaster

I'm sure they got posted on here before, but here are some clips of my 3.1L Firebirds.
The first is with a Dynomax ultra-flo cat-back system
Dynomax

This is my other Firebird with a Dynomax intermediate pipe, flowmaster muffler and cat-delete pipe :
Flowmaster

I prefer the Dynomax.

I think that Dynomax inter pipe flowmaster muffler and cat delete pipe sounds deeper and a bit more aggresive than the Dynomax. The Dynomax sound clip makes the car sound like an astro van.

Here's what a V6 should sound like over 4000 rpms. Notice you can feel the power of it in your chest- its not raspy at idle nor at high revs. NOTE: The ambient humming noise is the electric fans going. It was 103 here in So Cal this afternoon and still very warm tonight. The wife just got back from running around in this car with the A/C on so both fans are humming when I just restarted it in the garage.

In case you have not seen the cooling system on this car, or the single 2 1/2" exhaust exit though a 28.5" long Stainless Works custom made baffled muffler in place of the I-pipe and a little 10" long Cherrybomb turbostyle muffler hanging in the rear with minimal exhaust weight compared to a stock f-body setup.

EDIT: Link is temporarly not working- I'll get it back up ASAP

DRR, do you have any from outside of the car?? That's also not in the garage(it makes too much echo.) That sounds like my car(it's stock) from the inside. The stock exhaust sounds good, best i've ever heard on the V6's actually, just not loud enough.

hey heres some of mine i took today. mind u this is 2.5 inch ex with dual 3 inch tail pipes 80 series flowmaster,on a turbo charged engine.now theres 2 clips . the sound is a lil ****ty cause i had the laptop i used to record the sound to close to the tail pipes.but it will give u a general idea.btw when u hear it rev slightly.but it gets supper loud for a second, its cause for some reason @ about 1,800 it resonates pretty bad but it quiets back down above 2k but its gets real tinny above 5,000 as u will hear.IMO with load on the engine it sounds alot better, and dosent sound ricy/tinny at high rpms.im swaping my flowmaster for a spintech muffler,or a adjustable borla system not sure on which yet.anyways heres the clips
http://2wai.ics-il.com/sounds/startup1.wav
http://2wai.ics-il.com/sounds/startup2.wav

btw if u listen carefully u can hear the turbo winding up a bit

ok a glasspack is a straight thru muffler with fiberglass in it, so its louder and if your state is strict on emissions and crap then its illegal. Go with a Dynomax.

Here's the wife leaving a few minutes ago. She didn't know I was filming her. This is what the car sounds like in normal driving. there is alot of ambient noise when she is backing out, the mic on the digital cam is sensitive and is picking up the fan noise very loudly. you even hear a loud clunk into drive(which I do not hear or notice in person- but do hear very loud in the video) Anything pointed at the mic is exagerated- even the noise of it going down the street seems louder, yet you can not hear the idle because the tailpipe is facing away from the mic and it doesn't even pick up any exhaust sound- video does not do it justice, but you get a general idea.

Here is the obnoxious Flowmaster when I was racing it. This video sounds true to what the car sounded like (not my carmera- thats probably why- my mic is crap.) This car actually sounded decent with the flowmaster 80 and with most importantly very small 1.75" dual tips rather than the obnoxious 2.5" exits. However, in the autox video I had just put Headers on the car and it elevated the flowmaster resonation- I could not stand it and change it to the current above.

Here's the motor under high rpm loads (incar). I borrowed in from the wife this morning to run an errand. This is a high speed stop form 5800rpm in 2nd gear (85mph) Then turn the corner and acceletarate back up to 70 [4800 in 2nd] before having to slow-(There is a school zone on this road 3 corners ahead- Notorious for cops sitting there). Note that the braking is done DOWNHILL! You get an idea how fast this car stops. These tires are terrible compared to the Goddyear GS-D3's I just replaced- These are crappy BFG KDW tires, I hate them). Rearend gears are a lower 3.23 and this is a very radically built 700r4 (No a shiftkit package- a ground up all out performance build with all the latest and greatest in it- here how quickly it shifts) I am also trying to hold the camera on the dashboard with one hand while driving.

Mine also, That last link I posted is not giving sound when I click on it, yet the info down below on the link page shows it as a 22sec video WITH sound.
If you want, I will e-mail it to you. Just let me know if any is interested in hearing it. This car is still slow, but is amazingly peppy for a little 2.8 V6 F-body compared to stock ones.

I remember it being a post about someone buying a BMR carbon fiber driveshaft and saying it was heavy. My assumption from the picture he posted was that it was merely an aluminum (or even steel) tubing driveshaft with only CF wrapping- not a true CF driveshaft. GM did this with alumionum shafts to help absorb vibration- but were still heavy. I have a truck that had one factory. My ACPT CF driveshaft is 100% CF tubing and is bonded to aluminum end yokes. It is extremely light.

As for axles, Mine are Moser 26spline tapered axles and the flanges have been also drilled for rotation lightness. I added the ARP 1/2" wheelstuds because I corner hard in this car and want the added safety.

Moser pic attached

cool, thanks! so, you just had the holes drilled in the mosers? I thought maybe you had found some lightened axles or something but this would be even easier!

Charger, that sounds pretty nice, I like those chugging exhausts. Just don't like how different exhausts or any changes to stock sound when revving. I'll keep mine stock.

heres my camaro, dont got no sound clips though, this sounds very good, 2 1/2 all the way through, no CAT, muffler at end. Sounds very nice, deep sounding like a V8 at idle, sorta rice-burner when revving.

bringing this thread back, seeing if there are anymore sound clips.

I dont know why DDR got banned, but Im sure it wasn't for no reason. The link he posted:

I wanted something like the bottom picture, but with dual exiting pipes and dual mufflers, but one cat. Anybody make something like this?

Still looking for some clips of magnaflow exhausts on a V6

So far, I love 69Charger383's setup alot, but I think that wouldn't be legal out here.

Flowmaster - got this one off a guy on cardoman...convinced me to never put a flowmaster on my car.
to be honest, this is obviously a really small flowmaster, like a 40 series... the 60 and 80 series sound much better than that... but they still don't sound like they belong on a v6...

Re: V6 Exhaust Sound Clips

Search my posts for a vid of my old exhaust...

Custom 3 inch magnaflow kit on the 3.1L made it sound BEASTLY!!! At idle it sounded like a v8, and stayed that way up to about 3000 RPM. Could feel and most DEFINATELY hear the improvements. Best upgrade I ever chose... So nice
