really noisy...exhaust manifold is leaking, and there is a clicking sound on harder acceleration which i assume is a rocker arm that needs tightening. not sure what the engine milage is, since it is a swapped motor and not original to the car, guessing about 200,000km

Doward, I don't think the sound of a spooling turbo and and the ensuing boost count for what he's looking for.

Mine's pretty noisy all around... but my exhaust dumps about 3' after the turbo... keeps me from hearing any abnormal noises that I really don't want to.

Alright
My 3.4 in the Firebird is very quiet.
Only noise I do hear is the fuel injectors clicking.
On my Blazer 3.4 swap I still need to adjust, a bit more, the lifters.

My alternator's starting to sound "rough"; I think another bearing set is about to fry. (sigh) Good thing I got the lifetime warranty alternators!

5500 miles on the engine, the injectors click kinda loud, the Catco cat rattles until its warmed up (this bugs me cause its new), a/c pulley squeaks a little (but the compressor leaks anyway, so new one soon).

Mine was noisy for no reason a couple weeks ago. Just a rattling noise.
Then it got louder. And louder. Then I kept losing oil pressure...
Eventually it got really loud at a nice busy intersection and the oil pressure gauge went wacko.
Yup spun bearings can be quite loud at times..... also can make your car die if you keep driving it
RIP 2.8L, I'm not fixing that thing up lol
EDIT: 173k miles on the engine too..... and I only drove it for about 200 of it (damnit I got screwed)

Well if I can hear anything over exhaust the only thing I can hear is the rattling of lose tailipipe connecting to passenger side muffler that got damaged when I rolled backwards into a ditch. And of course lots of squeaks and creaks from door and window.

My 91 has 125,000 miles on it. Doesn't make many problem noises, just AC pully squeaking occasionally. The alternator makes a nice rattling noise when the AC or heat is turned on. It's getting to be time to replace that. Whenever the two of those make any noise it can hardly be heard over the exhaust, pretty minor.

This is off topic but find a 3.4 to build upon.
That's a 3.4 under the 1985 induction/ignition/exhaust system.
Downside to this swap.
Electric fuel pump is needed for your ride as a 3.4 has no provision for mechanical fuel pump.
Look to this swap as a blessing.
You'd be close to the 100th person who has already swapped to 3.4 power!

hmm.. well now that i think about it, right after i found out the starter needed to be replaced n the battery barely had any juice left in it (not enough to start the car), the car made a barely audible ticking noise for like a day.. of course, when the battery finally died it stopped
but before that there were no abnormal noises or anything
is this something i should be concerned about? the sooner i know the better cuz the car is being brought to a shop to get the starter replaced

I have a flowmaster 80 series, no cat, and a penny sized hole right at the rear hanger. And there was a time when I thought it sounded good.

Re: you're noisy v6....
Lets see, I've got a ticking noise when I come to a stop.
Random squeeky inner panels and moldings that like to jump around.
And an idle problem that makes it sound like I'm gonna do a burnout at every stop light I come to.
almost 190,000

Well this thread is old...
Just over 130000 miles and have a cylinder that is missing, a very squecky interior, and the whole car vibrates at idle or with the AC on.

The only 2 noises that my car makes, besides the interior noises, are my exhaust manifolds leak and a mystery rattle near my alternator(probubly is my alternator).
That probubly would have been a good move....

mine sounds like a 305 at idle. then once i get on it it sounds like a whipped 2.8 again. but it has put down 120HP on a dyno.

Re: you're noisy v6....
The exhaust in mine is flawless sounding. Some people even think I have a V8, the guy did my magnaflow setup perfect =)
other than that? hell... the compressor is shot (at least i think its the compressor...). it spins when i turn on the AC/heater and it will only spin for maybe 15 seconds then click and stop (the belt runs around it still so the engine runs fine, although that might be normal, im not too much of a gear head.), sometimes when i start going it almost sounds like theres a piece of tape or something on my car, it whips and flaps a bit but it goes away. and theres a strange almost fluttering in the engine i really dont know what it is.
oh and on high RPM shifts theres a boom sound. not very loud but i can't tell if its the tires trying to spin, the front suspention hitting itself (shot bushings), the drive train (i did some road tests and it doesn't seem like it) or the transmission.
=/
oh and the dash is cracked so it squeeks a bit. the interior is fine in it though hah =) my stereo system finds any loose screw or bolt though let me tell you...
after i do the bushings and possibly a K&N cold air intake along with a fluid/filter exchange (all) before i go into winter limp-along mode, come spring im having an engine/suspention check and diag run, and start replacing parts before summer =) ive already put about 4k into it with repairs and paint (and unforseen costs... >.>) but all worth it. almost showroom quality as is

Mine is. The whole exhaust system is original and rusty every time I hit a bump I have a new leak, the car has 200,000 miles always a MN car and does not have major rust and runs like a low mileage beater LOL. I just posted this video in another thread but here is my loud car, its a lot louder in person.

Re: you're noisy v6....
Mine's got 194080 on it. Exhaust manifold is missing 3 bolts on drivers side, 2 on pass side. My exhaust gets lower and lower ever day because my Y-pipe is bent from hitting a speed bump too fast, and caused a joint to start breaking loose. The tappits sound like they're gonna come through the valve covers. I found a 3.4 V6 though, so I can fix it soon.. Oh yea, and my 2.8 pushes out black smoke every time I start it, and it only starts well on really cold days.

Rattles? Gutted hood no hinges with urethane everything, 500in/lb front springs and 175 progressive rears. Oh ya I've got rattles.
PS, starting better on cold days could be your IAT sensor.
