Ugly. There are many issues with FWD/RWD conversions. The starter might be on the wrong side of the block, our 700R4 probably won't hold up for more than a month behind that kinda power without a *serious* rebuild, the OBD-II ECU will probably throw a fit without electronic controls over the transmission, your existing ECU has no easy way to convert to controlling all the systems on the motor, and as if all of that isn't bad enough, when you rotate a transverse motor to fit in a RWD application, the throttle body is turned towards the firewall.... and I recall talk of the 3800SCs throttle body not even clearing the firewall.

Its a good idea but swap it as a whole and stick it in your back seat. The independent rear suspension will be the added benefit to having all the weight over the drive tires.

Might wanna just leave the 3.1 where it is to stop wheelies.

The good news: The FWD and RWD 3800 series II engine is the same, the non-supercharged L36 engine code. Different intakes are used in FWD applications that put the throttle body pointing forward.

However, you are talking about the L67, which is the supercharged version. You can't just flip the supercharger etc. 180 degrees to use it in an F body.

Funny, I just bought a '99 Grand Prix GT sedan (the baby seat wouldn't fit in the LeBaron convertible and leave any room for a front seat passenger) and on a Grand Prix site someone just asked this exact "can I swap an L67 into a Camaro" the other day- and the answer was not without a lot of fabrication- and FORGET about doing it in a fourth gen car due to the engine being tucked under the windshield/cowl area.

Perhaps Dale can chime in, he has a GTP and maybe he could post a photo of the intake and supercharger on it to give us a better visual about why it would be an engineering nightmare of a swap.

Project on this board is currently doing a complete 3800 Series II engine and trans from a fourth gen car, again, non supercharged.

I love my old 60 degree V6 in the Camaro and plan to freshen it up and huff it with help from Doward, but this 3800 puts a HUGE smile on my face each time I whack the throttle! I'm guessing high to mid 15's, not shabby for a four door grocery getter!

Yeah, my 99 GPGT, 4dr also for the wife & kid< has done a best of 15.5@88 w/the only mod being a fram air filter. now it also has a $13 factory stb.

I beleive that an L67 swap cain be done, but you must either a) cut into the firewall , and it's there for a reason , b)move the engine forward enough to clear the firewall (but can jack up handling).

If you look at the fwd cars, there is a spacer like thing between the engine & the trann. this is where the torque convertor goes. This is also, well looks like it to me, the same width as the tb overhang & exhaust pipe crossover width. If you choose option "a" and clearance the firewall for both the tb and exhaust crossover, that would be so freaking schweeeeet!!!!!.

In the engine swap forum, someon ehas cut into their firewall to move a bb caddy motor back to make up for the weight of that beast. It can be done, you just have to put your mind to it.

Also part 2: Engien control. Use the stock harness and a warmed over 4L60E. have the pcm tuned to adapt for shift points and different axle tratio for the rwd application. HPTuners & Digital Horsepower are the two products that might be able to take care of this.

I forgot to add you'd need a trans for a 90 degree V6 or an adaptor for 60 to 90 degree. Best idea would be to go with an auto from a 3.8 4th gen car.
