Here's the reply I got

Sorry, but there aren't any V6 3rd Gen Fbodies in the club.

This thread has nothing to do with events so it's getting moved to announcements.

I got ahold of a buddy in TUSCON who is asking around for us in the Phoenix area.
He can't offer his ride from Tuscon to Phoenix.
BELIEVE ME IF I DIDN'T HAVE TO DO WORK ON MY OTHER HOUSE TO SELL IT & my ride was more solid, I'd be gone already.
UNFORTUNATLY I can't spare myself as I'm cheapest labor & the bank to the workers!

KEEP TRYING
KEEP TRYING!!

FOR THE FIRST TIME we are THIS CLOSE!!
That's better than no repsonse, which is all I ever got from other exhaust system vendors!

Sorry guys- six months ago I would have been game for this, but I now have headers and am not going to worry about it anymore- just do the swap game if I "randomly" get hit with a "Test only" smog check, otherwise I have a source.

Also- another main reason- I have 100% back Greg a PF&E with the efforts that he put into designing headers- I now have custom y-pipe headers for a 60*v6 3rd gen f-body and Greg has my word that I will not let anyone steal his design.

Alot of you guys claim to have cash in hand for headers- but if you did- rest assured you would have bought a set from PF&E (49 states can use his design legally) yet knowone else outsde of Calif has bought a set. And rest assured his are much better than what Pacesetter will mass build. Sorry I can't help- I'm a man of my word!

2.8, nice.. that is all I can say. Nice. Way to support the masses...

If we all had what? 400 to blow oln headers, we would have no problems, but we all know that PaceSetter will make a MUCH better product then that 5.7 charachters headers... Your tring to compare grapes to apples(if the PaceSetters get made) And sorry, but Pace is tha apple. Not tomention, it would be less then half the cost of your buddies headers. So we can see why you are not willing to help the masses. Trust me if I was even within 70 miles of phoenix I would be all over it, but I'm not, and I am not willing to drive the 1000 miles to get there.

Back to topic...
Hey Ked, can'y Paceseeter make a mock up of the block/trans combo and the K member? That woull all they would really need, cause above the front subframe there is plenty of room???

I know this wasn't adsressed to me, but I think they want a full car to be able to make absolutely sure of all clearance issues and leave no questions or room for error for when they mass produce such a thing. That's just my 2 cents on it...

You have no clue the money I have spent over the last year+ in trying to get a set of headers C.A.R.B legal Don't preach to me your b.s. I have given more effort than anyone here. I have gone a different route and am sorry but its to late for me to get involved

P.s- for your info- I have over $1500 invested toward the header cause and still no E.O.# How much have you forked over for the cause- Let me also add my hours of time as well

Greg is not "my buddy". He live 2000miles away- I have never met him- only talked to him on the phone several times- He's a man of his word, I respect him, He did me a favor and built me a set, I promised him I would not try to market them or any other- my word is gold- I have his respect back- Sorry if you can't understand that.

Know who you are Preaching to before you open your mouth!

It's wholly unfortunate, but by the time my car's highway-worthy for the Phoenix trip, it'll have an exhaust system most incompatable with headers... *sigh* couldn't you have gotten this moving while I was staying NA?

nope, they would just then produce more crappy headers. I have two different sets of headers that could be sent to him one with egr and smog pump hookups on them already. the other with just Egr fitting only-

Problem there would be that these are useless because there is no y-pipe ( a y-pipe will not work well on the sets I have- but I attempted them in the past anyway because its all that was availible)- and I won't send out my set from Greg- I promised I wouldn't and also I'd probably never see them again or they would get damaged somehow or lost or some crap- they are way to valuable.

The Hooker's and Hedman's that I have also only work on automatic cars and not manuals (sticks)

Same here... don't want to have to redesign the Y pipe cuz of new headers.... maybe next year, when I go to upgrade the turbo to a 16G!

FOR THOSE NEW GUYS WHO DON'T KNOW GOOD2.8 & HIS EFFORTS
He has sincereley tried his best to help, with HiPo exhuast.

This opportunity came about because I, ME, was determined to help us get a HiPo exhaust system.
AND A TRUE HIPO Exhaust system WILL NEED INCLUDE A NEW "Y" Pipe to be created as a PART OF A HIPO EXHAUST SYSTEM PACKAGE.

Yes a VEHICLE IS NEEDED for PROPER FITMENT.

I can't believe the bickering I am now reading.
All the people who want TRUE STREET LEGAL EXHAUST SYSTEM, finally we get a chance and no one can truly help our cause.

I almost wish I could buy a car from the local Pick Your Part and just donate it for this cause!
I'd rather drive there and enjoy watching this chance being created!

HELL WHILE OUR V6 CARS WERE PRODUCED/BEING MADE AT THE FACTORY IN VAN NUYS & NORWOOD, WE NEVER HAD A CHANCE THIS CLOSE TO AN ACTUAL MANUFACTURER WILLING TO PRODUCE THE STREET LEGAL EXHAUST SYSTEM PRODUCT.

Doesn't anyone want to step up and help everyone?
Doesn't any member of Third Gen want to be part of history and help the street legal Header V6 cause?

COM'N THIS CAN HAPPEN
All Mr Gerle needs is a 2.8/3.1 3rd Gen F Body car to use for trial fitment before the finished product is sent to CARB in El Monte, CA for certification and then the product goes to market place & us car owners get to buy it.

What's the end result of all this?
WE ALL CAN AND WOULD BUY STREET LEGAL HEADERS

TOTAL ESTIMATED TIME:
23 hours, 37 minutes TOTAL DISTANCE:
1457.95 miles
ONE WAY

a motel 6 is 39.99 a night
gas, i have a 2.8l it averages 20 miles per gallon hway soooooo it would cost me 131 dollars in gas one way

we will say for five days 100 in food. so if the project took one week
total cost for hotel and round trip would beeee a whopig

$ 561.95

good lord thats alot of money. and i would need a second driver (probably my brother) so cost of hotel would go up, so would food.

i think by telling you this you see why i can't go. however, if these expenses were paid (not all of, hey i wanto support cauise too!) then i could justify doing it.

NOTE: i posted this not expecting offers, just trying to absolve myself from guilt of not "steping up to the plate"

Somebody find the classified car ads for that Arizona area and see if they are selling a third gen. V6 car. Chances are, they are selling it because they want a car with more power- and might be willing to offer their car as a trial basis. Sounds to me the person who does it will get a free set.

Anything over $350 is more than I care to spend for headers. I'm getting really tired of looking at those heavy cast iron units. I refuse to use them when I get my engine rebuilt. So I guess I'll just have to pay the $400 + whether I like it or not.

Xophertony - I feel the samw way as you do man. I live in PA, and it's an even farther drive for me. I would probably trailor my car out there so I could have a car while I am there. But the cost and time it would take me is sick. I'm not saying that it's not worth it, I sadly just don't have the monetary resources and time currently.

We need to find someone closer to AZ....

A little side note, from where I live to Phoenix, AZ...

thank you. We are ready to do it. We just need a car.

MY LATEST RESPONSE FROM MR> FRED GERLE

MEANING THEY WILL MAKE THEM IF WE COME ON DOWN!
Again, I'm stuck in town (LA) for too long & I need do across counry flight to see my Grandmother (she's only 99 ya know!) and present her with her Great Grand Son.

That mission is more improtant.
I'm gonna speak with Mr. Gerle shortly to see what can be done.
Wish Pacesetter could come out to LA, be happy to offe rmy car, then.
I'm stuck.
I've gotten us this far.
Need to pass the ball to another for the finish line triumph!

i estimated 550 dollar cost for me to go down there from oregon, if i had some help i monitarily i could do this trip in like two weeks. my only commitment right now is my job, i could get time off,but i can't afford it. i could spring for about 200 of this trip (i could justify this if i got free headers) if somone else could help with the extra 350 i would do it.

i have only been a member of this board for three weeks, i don't even rewaly know what eftermarket headers do for you hp wise. i know they improve exhaust flow, i have looked at my stock headers, they take more twisats then a rollercaoster . that cant be good for flow. it would probably also improve the sound of my engine.

my car would work as it has stock exhaust all the way tot the cat. from then on its aftermarket. that won't matter will it?

anotherr amendment, i would be able to leave for phenix july 20th. i also have family in los angeles i could stay with for one night down and one night back.

how far is LA from phenox?

EDIT:
TOTAL ESTIMATED TIME:
6 hours, 4 minutes
TOTAL DISTANCE:
372.16 miles

ok, i could actually stay in la, drive to phoenix drop off car, get a ride back, stay in la, get a ride back once car is done. this would cut the cost of my trip down to like 300 bucks!!!! this is actually doable!!!

Right now, WE MAY HAVE A GOOD 3RD GEN FRIEND DO THE MISSION FOR US!
He's considering and is close to Phoenix.
WE ARE GETTING CLOSER!

IF there are any other closer volunteers, give a shout!
WE STILL NEED A FIRM COMMITMENT!
SO DOES PACESETTER!

ok, i have been in contact with my grandmother (family in LA) i can stay with her while down there AND i could borow her 1978 oldsmobile cutless (the gutless cutless ) to drivemyself back from phenix (will have a second driver with me to follow me there from la in gutless cutless and bring me back)

I would actually like to do this. i have not seen my grandmother in a year. she is 86 and may not have to many years left. she is also realy into cars (coolest grandmother ever!!!)

KED85 get in contact with your guy. ask him if being there around july 23rd-26th (tentative date) would be to late? the more info i get on this the better. also by the way, my attitusde on this has gone from (kinda half joking) to (realy want to do this) i am not just talking here.

also, my brother (second driver) may take his own car own as well (nissan 240sx hatchback 1991http://www.angelfire.com/cantina/xophertony/trader2.jpg see a pic!) there is a shop that does engine swaps in the LA area and the specialise in doing what nissan drivers call an SR swap. they take the TURBO engine out of a Nissan Silvia (only available in japan) and have it shipped over and put it in the 240sx (american production model of the sylvia w/ a 2.8l 4banger) so we both would come back with faster cars.

one more thing, find out for sure if the test car (me i hope) gets free headers? if so that would seal the deal for me, hands down i would go. please post back or PM me. preferably post so all can bask in our glory

EDIT: ked85, i notice you live in socal. my brother and i would need to stay a hotel night in the sothern california area . being halfway between LA and portland Reding would (i think) be the place, if you know of any CHEAP hotels in area that would be cool. the less this costs me the better.

Hey if there's free headers involved or a huge discount, I will do it! Hey Karl, let me have that number to pacesetter so I can find out when a good day would be to go in. If this really happens that would be awesome! Stereo equipment and big tires really slowed down my car. Maybe this will bring it back to life! Eric

PaceSetter Phone number is
602-266-1964
You seek to speak with Mr. Fred Gerle.
Mention that you are interested in donating your time & vehicle for purpose of engineering for street legal headers for 3rd Gen V-6 60* engine (2.8/3.1).

JUST SO YOU KNOW
I
AM NOT PROMISING FREE HEADERS OR ANYTHING.

MR. FRED GERLE IS NOT PROMISING FREE HEADERS OR ANYTHING.
Mr. Gerle is seeking a 3rd gen V6 car to engineer a high performance exhaust system so that the PROTOTYPE exhaust system may be sent to CARB in California for certification.

What progresses outta the conversation between yourself & Mr. Gerle is totally outta my hands.

CAN SOME SWEET DEAL BE MADE DUE TO YOUR GENOROSITY?
Inform us of the outcome, we are all anxious to help in any way we can!

Cheap motels.....
I usually find them just by driving around.
I do start scouting for rooms by about 3 PM that day, depending upon where I want to crash, tho.
I have spent $200 for a room (in Eureka-lovely place) to a low of $85 or less outside of Big Sur (Route One) & San Jose area.

My lowest priced rooms?
Route One, outside of Big Sur, fold down the back seat of my 1985 Blazer & I camp/sleep inside, besides the road, Pacific Ocean roaring in the night.

I also took my 67 Camaro Convertible on the same treks.
I just camp beside the car on the dirt. IF I rolled the wrong way, I'd fall down cliffs to Pacific Ocean below. The camp site was Hearst Castle and yes, this was back in 1988 (on my way to SF for the 50th Anniversay of the Golden Gate Bridge).
My favorite free camp sites are now North of Marin, on Route One/101.
I cannot wait to do those free campings again & wash up & eat cheap at the next town McDonalds!
TOO MUCH FUN!

I'm glad to hear that we have not only 1 but 2 people willing to do it. I'm sure if you talked to Mr. Gerle about it that he might be able to get whoever goes a free set of headers, or at least a discounted price. He has always seemed nice to me and quick qith the responses to the e-mails.

So I guess the question is, who is going to go? And when?

I'm going to talk to my bosses tomorrow to see if I can get time off anytime soon. If everything goes well, I'll call Pacesetter tomorrow. If everything doesn't work, Xophertony can go.

FROM MYSELF TO ALL ABOUT THIS...
I only hope this option of a visit to Phoenix is a win/win situation for the volunteer & us the future purchasers of the final product.

I, also, was determined to let any manufacture know
we, as the collective 3rd Gen V6 60* engine option, is a viable group of individuals who want to also have performance & smog legality.
Meaning
I was hoping & always trying to convince any manufacture that:
they build the product, we will consider buying that product.

PaceSetter is stepping up to the plate.

I hope that any member that volunteers their time effort personal funds, comes back from the visit to Mr Gerle & PaceSetter......
SMILING AND PLEASED that they chose this mission.

As usual, IF any member of the IMF (Impossible Mission Force) team is captured, we will lie & say we don't know ya!

I can't thank all enough for carrying the ball further than I can at this moment.

Sorry guys, not happening. As it is, my boss at Best buy won't let me have a few days off for this. My second job won't let me have any days off because the only time I work there is the weekend. The only way I'd be able to work this would be to drive to phoenix to drop my car off, then catch a shuttle home and try to find rides to and from work until they are done. Then I would have to take a shuttle back to phoenix to pick up my car. Then drive home which seems like an awful lot of work. Not to mention the money for gas and the shuttles, to and from phoenix. Hopefully your man Xophertony is still up to the job and he can get them made. Sorry for letting you guys down but I checked.

I will post on 3gc.net, see if any V6ers there are up for it. I can't donate my services personally, as you can see to the left I'm a long ways away (if you know where that is).

HEY MY BOSS IS AWESOME,TOO!
THE BOSS IS ME
(Meet the New Boss, Same as the Old Boss!)
I really wish I could go....
Damn cheap workers gotta watch their every step. One worker has almost cost me $150 in FINES from LA Building & Safety Inspector!
I talked to inspector calmed him down!
The house I bought has NOT had a electric fuse box ground wiring set up for who knows how many years!
NOT KIDDING either!
I'm the electrican so I know what to do.
Hope this explains why I can't go right now....
AND BELIEVE ME, my Grandmother is 99 & I can't wait to present her Great GrandSon to her. She's in NC by the beach...

I have to admit I've never taken the 5, South from North California/Oregon border...
Last year I finally made it to Oregon by taking Route 1/101, lovely state! Had to always turn around at Eureka & go back South to LA

3.1f4now.... you need to call the nuber posted above and talk to the guy and tell him you are willing to let him teswt fit your car with headers, it is a three day or so process. you will be out of a car for that long. since it is your second car this will not matter good luck and thankyou for being the sperm doner of aftermarket headers
