Strange noise in TH400 after installing TransGo kit
A friend of mine is having trouble with the TH400 in his 69 Nova after installing a Trans Go shift kit. He says there's a loud ping type of noise when he first shifts into reverse, but not when he shifts into a forward gear. The car isn't insured right now so he hasn't tried driving it to see how it behaves. He probably hasn't even tried inching back and forth inside the garage. Anyone have any ideas what his problem might be?

It could be that the Rear Band adjustment isn't tight enough. In Forward the Low Roller automatically engages so it 'times' itself. However in Reverse the Direct Clutches and the Band Have to both physically be applied and often the Band doesn't some on right away. The 400-3 kit has special shims to set it up since it is critical on a manual shift VB but you can use it as an auto too. They sell a Harsh Reverse Correction Kit too that will do the same thing and will probably take care of it as long as you are not just hearing a loose Diff.
