1984 Camaro 700r4 swap to t5 from a 1992 s10 questions
Hello, I’m currently in the process of swapping my automatic tranny to a manual t5 from a 1992 s10 parts car. The transmission is in great shape. I was wondering what all I need and where I need to get it. I’ve made myself a parts list. This is what I have so far:
- Bell housing
- Clutch fork
- Pedals
- Master and slave cylinder
- Shifter
- Flywheel
- Clutch and linkage
- Clutch pressure plate
- Throw out bearing
- Pilot bushing
- Speedometer gears and vss
- Starter

There is only one thing I know for 100% certain about the S10 transmission;
It does not have a provision in it's tailshaft housing for mounting the torque arm (that connects to the rear axle assembly). Your two options will be to get a tailshaft housing from a third gen specific T5, or get a "torque arm relocation kit" that will mount the torque arm elsewhere than the transmission's tailshaft. I do not know if any other S10 T5 parameters are different from our third gen cars, and I suggest you do a search of "Camaro / S10 T5 swap" to ensure there are no other considerations.
The three holes cast into this (700R4) tailshaft housing are what the S10 transmission will be missing.

Swapping the tailhousing is probably a must do item since the S10 T5 shifter location is ideal for rodders that want to keep a bench seat. Your '84 more than likely has a cable driven speedometer and I'm not 100% sure what the '92 S10 came with but if you're swapping tailhousing, it may be just a matter of adapting the drive gear to the output shaft.
Do you know what kind of engine the S10 originally came with? You might end up with some obnoxiously low 1st gear. See if you can locate the tag on the tailshaft and cross reference it to this site.
Ahhhh...I started linking stuff from this site...might as well include it in your research rather than retyping all the info I'm posting here from memory.
Keep us posted...I'd like you to see this through and what issues you need if any that you had to overcome.

Some t5's from 2.8s have a 14 spline input and obviously a different bell. I've never seen an s10 trans make it into a f body. But it may be possible w enough work.

Pretty sure it won't happen, unless you remove the dash and console, and grow a real long right arm.

For what it's worth, I have a t5 that's in great shape that needs a good home. And it will fit!
