700R4 Rebuild
What is the going rate on a 700R4 rebuild? I spent $1800 on mine this week but it was out of an 84 Z28 and hasn’t been used since 1999. Just curious what others have paid recently. Posts two years or older concerning price are irrelevant because our country is in such great financial shape these days and car parts are super affordable. Right? 🙄

Re: 700R4 Rebuild
I haven't had an automatic rebuilt in over a decade, but I would expect $1,800 for a 700R4 to be about average. Something happened about 3 years ago that triggered a lot of inflation. Can't quite put my finger on it. That, and 10% for the big guy....

Re: 700R4 Rebuild
About 15 years ago, I asked my mechanic who lived next door to me & managed a tranny & engine repair shop, the cost to rebuild a TH350. He said to bring $1000 cdn. Now cost would be at least double. Now a 700-4R is more complicated & u had it done in 1999 for $1800. What would the cost be today? $4000?

Please stop bringing politics onto a forum for car maintenance. This isn't the first time you've done this.

Re: 700R4 Rebuild
Enough, didn’t need this going there. My point was there are a lot of old posts on here and costs change over time. So instead of sifting through years of outdated junk I asked it again. Goal was to see if I got a fair price or not. Not bringing politics to anything. Simply stating things are expensive now days.
back to car stuff now…
looking forward to seeing how it performs rebuilt. How strong is a solid 700R4? At what point does it become not enough? Power wise I mean

Tampa bay area, there's guys that do carry out exchanges for $900. Not sure what quality level of parts they're using. In building my own 4l60e. Nothing crazy beyond Zpak, a few sonnax upgrades, and a stock trailblazer converter, and I'm already up to $650 in parts through my wholesale supplier.

Re: 700R4 Rebuild
Keep in mind that $1800 is including transport to the trans shop and probably some sort of mark up due to the fact one shop is removing/installing it but a 3rd party shop does the rebuild.

Re: 700R4 Rebuild
A few months ago I bought a kit from Pro Built for $1300. It will handle 600hp. That was with a converter and I did the rebuild. A stock rebuild kit from him was LOTS cheaper. HP is expensive.

Re: 700R4 Rebuild
Good question! I bought mine in 2001 with 145k miles, transmission got rebuilt at 175k miles for a total of about $900. It was a friend of a friend who was good at working on cars, he charged me $200 labor to pull my transmission off, he had one of his friends rebuild it I want to say for about $660, so it was $860 to me. I knew it was a good deal and knock on wood. However now fast fwd 15-20 yrs it has 250k miles and transmission was acting up and not shifting, which ended up being a stuck throttle valve a local transmission shop charged me $150 to rebuild the throttle valve(took us 9 months to figure this out, alot of car sitting). And knock on wood just 3 days it's now shifting great. Anyways that price is not a transmission shop price so go figure. And that is 20 yrs ago pricing. Worst case scenario I was considering Summit Racings Rebuilt Tranny's that come with a warranty 3-5yr that I'm told cost something like $2800, which yeah is high, but I was considering it depending on how much I got quoted to rebuild mine as well. My suggestion of having rebuild is check their online google reviews and hopefully make sure you get someone with experience and a good record.

My lowest Recomended Level #1 THM700-R4 (Up to 500HP at the tires, for Up to a 4,000Lb Vehicle) would be from a Builder in PA...
