older 3rd gen pedals in newer car - Neutral Safety switch

The situation: I have a 1990 Camaro RS that was auto to manual swapped (also LS1 and t56 swapped). I have the older style 3rd gen pedals with the clunky pull style Clutch Safety Swtich. I "made" a Clutch safety switch from an 80s truck one (converted it from push to pull... there is a thread on here somewhere) and on the workbench, it works great.

I put my pedals back in the car, but there is NO ROOM for the safety switch. It seems to be the clearance between the fuse box and the clutch position switch for cruise... the Safety Switch needs to go between and there just isn't room (also the "plunger" goes into a mess of wires near the fuse box which I don't like). Has anyone come across this issue before? am I going to need to find newer 3rd gen or 4th gen pedals to use the new button style Safety switch?

Do you feel the need to have it? You can just wire it up to not have one (i.e. jump the contacts so that it thinks the switch is there).

It's just there to prevent you starting the car while in gear.

Heck, if you wanted to you could run wires up to the dash to a traditional toggle switch.

Yeah I'm aware I can do without it... I just don't drive a manual every day and I don't want to accidentally put it through the garage door or something. 😀 I also had the thought of wiring it to a toggle switch... Maybe... hmm

Ah that’s true lol. I like toggle switches, easy answer to when something doesn’t fit due to whatever reason. Plus with the jet cockpit like feel to these cars it adds to the ambiance haha

4th gen pedals
Pros: give a higher master cylinder attachment point (appropriate for 4th gen master cylinder travel,)
And the mid-thirdgen-implemented pushbutton switch.
Cons: The 5th bolt up top doesn't line up. Accel. pedal may need trimmed off.

I guess I could mention that I did put in a 4th gen brake master cylinder and booster.

It seems like upgrading to newer 3rd gen or 4th gen pedals with a button-style safety switch might be a better fit for your LS1 and T56 swapped Camaro. It could resolve clearance and wiring challenges more effectively.
