speed sensor broken shaft
Hope someone can help with information.
I have an 91 Trans Am. I have changed the wheels from 16 inch to 16 inch. I have change the diff from 2.73 to 3.42. To get the speedometer to the correct speed I changed the driven gear from 36 tooth to 42 tooth. It seemed as if everything was good for the last 500km. Then all of a sudden noise from below and then speedometer stopped. I investigated and found that the shaft coming from the speed sensor had snapped inside the sensor just near the bronze bushing. No damage to the driven or drive gears. From what I have read the sensor should be "clocked" to allow for the slightly larger driven gear. I have ordered another sensor to be replaced. From what I see the clocking would increase the distance between the driven and drive gears. I see no way to lock down the sensor with the bracket that holds the sensor in place. My question is: Has anyone had this sort of problem before??? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thalnks.
