700r4 governor TV cable relationships
My original 50,000 1987 formula lg4 powered transmission worked perfectly, shifting at WOT at 4600rpm, it is a lg4 afterall. I put a bigger engine in the car and installed a 2600 stall converter and transgo shift kit. Not matter what I do I can’t adjust the tv cable correct, I have read many hours on this adjustment procedure and understand the tv cable function. If I set the tv cable to correct way the shifts occur at light throttle over 3000rpm. If I loosen the cable I can get it to shift about 2200 and seem to have all the gears except 3-4 is kinda late which I attribute to the shift kit.
my question is since I don’t change the governor springs that are still for the early shifting lg4, does that influence these shift points? I am unsure ho this relationship works??

Need pictures.
What is on there for a carb?
This is not a kickdown cable, like what was used in the past with Turbo 350 transmissions.
The TV cable adjustment is critical. You could trash your trans if not adjusted properly.

fixed that for you, there is NO adjustment in the TV cable. there is only one spot it should be SET. i understand you are able to play around with the length but that is only there for minor differences in needed length. set it the right way by pushing it all the way to the rear then going WOT to let it click out. to change your shifting rpm you will need to mess with the springs and weights on the governer gear.

Re: 700r4 governor TV cable relationships
I am very familiar with setting theta cable and it’s purpose of increasing line pressure as throttle opens, plus I have the correct bracket geometry, My question is the governor, since this was a lg4 carburetor car, that had much lower wot shift points then the fuel injection cars. Since I did not change the governor, I believe the governor will still limit my shift points. I wonder if I need the change the governor now to realize higher shift points?

You will want to start by looking at the Corvette governor assembly.
It might be perfect for your situation by just swapping it in.
From what I have read, those that have tried to recalibrate their low rpm governor with a kit have gotten mixed results and very frustrated in the process. Some have tried nearly 10 times before either giving up or getting a result that they have called good enough.

I put one in mine. Raised my WOT shift points, kinda scary haha but well worth it. 2nd to 3rd is a real treat. Gonna miss my ol 700.
