Found a Foreign Oblect In my Reaerend
I know I just could not help myself when titling this post!
All seriousness, I was changing the diff fluid and when I got the cover off I found this washer looking thing. The reason I say "looking" is it is flexible, like a compressed fiber or maybe hard rubber. it is not steel. The lines are not ribs, just dark stains on both sides. Since it is not torn and the posi rear performs as it should I assume it did not just fall out and it was left in there by the PO that change out the diff.

The magnet is not very strong so maybe it just fell off. I do have a dimple in the cover and the cover is a aftermarket chrome. There was no metal stuck to it when I pulled it out, Do you Think I will be ok if it is not in?

You can probably get away with a rare earth magnet or two, stuck on the outside of the cover, if you really don't want to dump all that fresh lube and additive.
Edit: Aftermarket cover, aluminum? If it bugs you not being in there, remove the cover and put it back. I'd epoxy it back in place.

Nope , not OK , think nuclear explosions , biblical floods , the emergence of flying Alligators , that sort of thing !!!!
Kidding ! Just kidding ! Put it back on your next oil change (presuming you do regular differential oil changes) and you'll be fine .
And for the meantime I really like Paulo's external magnet idea ...

Probably not a big deal. But if it bothers you enough, remove the cover and stick it back onto the lower portion on the cover.
