What I found in my trans pan 700r4 (spring) and boost valve stuck
Changing the fluid in my 700r4 I find this grayish material in the pan and this spring stuck to the magnet. Can anyone identify it?

That's called the rebuild spring; when you find it in your pan you need to have the trans rebuilt.
Jokes, but your pan looks pretty darn bad.

Where the tv cable goes into the trans I’m pretty sure it connects straight to a spring. Might want to make sure the tv cable is working.
Are you having trans problems? Sure looks like clutch material in the pan.

Tv cable is intact and working fine. This car has been In storage for a few years because I had thought the trans went out but now it seems to be working ok. The reason I thought it went out was I was shifting manually 1-2 one day and it made a bad grinding noise. Now oddly getting it running again it shifts fine. I will upload more pics.

Re: What I found in my trans pan 700r4 (spring)
I checked the line pressure when I got it running again in July and found that pressure was low in manual 1 and 2. I spoke with Dana at Probuilt and he advised checking rev/intermediate valve above the boost valve to see if it was possibly installed upside down. Tonight I removed the snap ring below the boost valve and it would move a little above the snap ring, but when I try to remove it to check it out I find it’s stuck in the bore. Any suggestions to get it out? I saw on another thread to try to blow air where the filter neck goes in?

Put the pan back on, add a couple of quarts of fluid, start engine.

You're welcome, that is a tip that Dana posted here. When you install the boost valves, be sure that the c-clip goes into the groove. There is a step in the bore prior to the c-clip groove that is easy to mistake for the groove.
And sometimes it can be difficult to get the upper portion of the line up past a certain point in the pump.
As for the spring, I don't see anywhere in the 700R4 that it is used. Maybe someone dropped it down the dip stick tube?

Use a socket to push the c-clip and boost valve in all the way. Worked every time for me.
Definitely looks like the TV cable spring, might just be an extra.

The spring kind of looks like the one used to hold the parking pawl lever to keep tension on it away from it hitting the gear when is not in park.
