Quadrajet & 700r4

Guy I know has a 86 Camaro 700r4 that he says came with a factory Quadrajet & mech fuel pump, it was then swapped to a eddy carb before he got it. My question is what controls lock-up for that car? I've been told the ecm does for a TB or TPI car but no clue on a factory carb car? Also the TV/detent cable is not hooked up, yes I know that is bad but my main question is about lock-up control, I'm just including all factors I think may be relevant.

I've been told my 85 TPI car converted to carb will need a vac or psi switch to control lock-up even if I leave the ecm.

Re: Quadrajet & 700r4

Factory carb would have been the E4ME Quadrajet CCC system. (Computer Command Control). This carb has a computer and it does control TCC.

Re: Quadrajet & 700r4

For US models the computer controlled the lockup, some export models did not have the computer and used a vacuum switch for lockup.

An aftermarket lockup controller is available for use without the computer or you can source your own parts to install something similar.

Re: Quadrajet & 700r4

You could leave the wiring and ECM, keep the temp. sensor at the engine, and VSS (in-speedo those years) and the ECM will be able to control lockup, There are other possible sensor needs, but the ECM has more finesse than aftermarket lockup kits and is free.

...and TPS and Vac sensor.

maybe baro.

without the carb you'd have to rig an external throttle position sensor, if the ecm sees a steady, unchanging TPS signal it's going to be a pain driving it, won't unlock with sudden throttle change.
