T56 Swap 4th Gen pedals don't line up?

I'm swapping a T56 into a 92 Z28. The car came with a 700R4 and I swapped a TH400 into it. I've got a T56 from a 96 Camaro along with pedals from the same car. I cut the throttle bracket off the new pedals and enlarged the holes that go to the booster. The bracket that goes down to the master cylinder is off though. When I bolt up the unit, the bracket to the master is low and left of where it should be. For some reason, unknown to me, there is already a hole in the firewall where the top left bolt for the MS goes in. You can see in the photos that its off. If I were to drill where the pedals are now, I would be drilling on a corner, and not on a flat spot of the firewall. Bad pedals? Different firewall? Anyone else run into this problem?

Re: T56 Swap 4th Gen pedals don't line up?

Found a Super Chevy article about this and it looks like from their pictures of a 92 RS that the firewall is relatively flat right there. Not sure why a Z28 from the same year would be different? My car was an L98 which didnt come with standard trans as an option so maybe firewall is different?

Anyone else do this mod that can chime in on how the firewall looks there? If its supposed to be straight there it looks like im going to have to do some straightening on mine to do this right.

Thanks for the help in advance.

Re: T56 Swap 4th Gen pedals don't line up?

Well its looking more and more like its not the pedals I got. Looks like I got an uncooperative firewall. Granted this guy had a Firebird. Im not sure if their firewalls were different. But looking again at the super Chevy article, which is of a Camaro, it is definitely flat right there, where mine has a major corner.

I'm wondering now if this is normal for a 92 Z28 or if my car was wrecked. I bought it 15 years ago and there are no other indications that it was wrecked before I bought it. No records of it on the VIN and no body modifications that I can tell...

I wouldn't dwell on the reason why your firewall is different, what's done is done. Focus on how to make it work.

Good luck

84 bird here, 4th gen pedals with no issues, my firewall is flat there and the car was originally an auto/v6.

Re: T56 Swap 4th Gen pedals don't line up?

Got er all figured out. My firewall was definitely bent. No idea how. A 2x4 and a sledge took care of the bend. I didn't like the hole in the wall or the bolt coming through so I fixed those. I think the bolt went to the cruise control maybe? Haven't had that in the car in over a decade so I have no idea. I also had no idea it was tacked to the firewall. When I took it out, it boogered the wall something fierce. So I welded that up, and the hole for the grommet by the column. Unfortunately my welder's fan decided to give out and then I ran out of argon so I had to use flux core which is not as clean so forgive the grossness. The wall was still a bit wavy so I basically ran down beads to build up the metal and then ground it flat. My hope was this would increase the thickness of the wall too to decease flexing. I'm going to smooth out the surface tomorrow and make it look nice. Once I straightened the wall the pedals lined up nicely. Gonna make it pretty and paint it and move on.

Oh also I pulled my motor from the driver's quarter panel for the first time and it was WAAAAY easier.
