I found some brass in my filter and pan the other day, this is why i wanted to check end play and tear into the trans. It passes the air test with no problem.
I did notice that some of the 4 tab brass washers looked a tad bit warn, and also that the front pump had some worn areas on it. I have a torrington bearing behind the front pump on this trans not a thrust washer. No shim was behind the bearing.
I planned to get a new pump from tci for piece of mind, also a few shims in case i need to add in .020 or .030 to get that .059 back down to .010 or so. It is safe to put a shim under the torrington bearing?
Im hoping that new 4 tab brass washers though out will help the gap?
This trans was supposedly rebuilt a little over a year ago. I ran it in my car since.
I had no problems with the trans, just noticed the brass and that looked abnormal to me.
Worn brass thrust washers are normal for a T350. I'd ck the bushings also and if replacing them put a wider bushing in the direct drum and 2 extras in the sun gear being careful not to block any feed holes. Depending on use or abuse you can have the snap ring for the sun gear tig welded. After reassembly if you need to tighten end play you can shim the bearing at the pump. Ck the one way roller clutch on the direct drum and for peace of mind install a hardened race. The Ron Sessions book on T350 is a good source of info.
Thanks for the tips and help. I ordered up some parts for the trans. I got a hardened race coming also as i was told by some others that would be a good idea.
The trans is used for bracket racing mainly. 11.50-12.0 at the track. And driving it there and back. So it gets some abuse but not too much considering.
I like Transgo kits if you're using any shift modification. they work better than anything else I've tried. Also be sure to flush out your cooler while you're at it and or possibly install a dedicated cooler aside from the radiator cooler.

Its got a tci reverse full man valve body in it right now. It shifts fast and hard. I never had a issue this year at the track. Put about 60 passes on it. I do run a large external cooler on it also and keep a eye on the temps on a guage for when im making the drive to the track. So far the temps havent gotten out of control yet.
