I have a well used Dana 44 that i want to set up for some mild drag racing it was used in a drag car before I bought it

3:92 gears oil looks clean however backlash is at 15-16 thousands this seams way excessive
spec is 6-10 should I bite the bullet and plan on major rebuild or would it be OK for a half a dozen test and tune runs

Preload it at the lights and see what it does.

Please use some periods and capital letters so this will be easier to read.


Are the bearings tight? If the differential is loose then you could easily break it. If the bearing preload is still tight then you could probably run it some.
