Torque Converter
Can someone help me? My engine is locked up so I can't spin my flywheel to get my last torque converter bolt out to pull the tranny. I've tried turning the crankshaft bolt and it just gets tighter and I don't want to snap it. I've also tried torching the sparkplug inlet on the cylinder that I know has water in it to try to melt the water and it didn't do anything. Advice would be appreciated.

Now , after the transmission is slid off of the converter and engine , I'm still not too sure how accessable the last bolt will be , but if it's able to be reached your all set . If not , and absolute worse comes to worse , you also could pull the engine's oil pan , and disconnect the connecting rod from the crankshaft of the cylinder you know to be rusty .
Either way , it sounds like any of this would be far easier overall if the engine/transmission was removed from the car as a unit , and then separated on the ground ......

Re: Torque Converter
I've thought of sliding the torque converter out of the tranny but I don't have a lift or even a clean garage, I'm trying to pull this off in my yard. That makes it a lot harder. I'll probably just pull the motor and tranny as one unit when it gets warmer out because I'm rebuilding the motor anyway.

Re: Torque Converter
Use a crankshaft 'socket' that engages the woodruff key on the crank snout...it's really easy to shear the bolt (BAD NEWS) trying to turn a tight motor...btdt.

Re: Torque Converter
after shooting some ATF ,wd40,ETC into the cylinder(s)affected and letting that sit for a day or two, could use a big screwdriver or tire iron end and pry against the flexplate starter teeth-start working it back and forth untill it turns over-this method worked on a 350 i salvaged that had sat uncovered outdoors for 12 yrs...
