LT1 T56 Clutch Problems

For starters, when I did my swap about 2 years and 6K miles ago I replaced EVERYTHING in hopes to prevent problems like this. I have new hydraulics, fork, t bolt etc.

Also, it has not affected anything until now that the clutch is starting to slip, i assume because of premature wear.

When I let the clutch out and im giving it slight gas to start off or when banging through the gears (cant hear it over the exhaust but if i beat on it, i smell clutch after), right before it fully engages, i can hear a wurring sound and smell clutch. Its seems as though the flywheel or pressure plate is spinning at a higher rate of speed basically slipping on the clutch disk. almost like there is slight pressure on the pressure plate, but not enough to prevent the pressure plate from spinning on the clutch disk and burning it. My understanding of a clutch is that as the clutch pedal gets released the clutch will grab the flywheel slowly to start transferring power, mine almost seems as though the flywheel speed is too much and that spins on the clutch disk instead of grabbing the clutch as it should. It would be the same as if i was just cruising and was resting my foot on the clutch keeping it right at the edge of engaged and disengaged. Its hard to describe but what can be the problem and how can i fix it.

The clutch has in the past couple week just started to slip very slightly. If im in 5 and go to pass someone but just stepping on it it slips a little.

Re: LT1 T56 Clutch Problems

The symptom in your last paragraph is a worn clutch on it was out.

It is possible there is an "adjustment" issue, may have caused the fast wear but I doubt it will fix the current issues.

Yeah Im trying to understand what might have been a problem. I would have assumed all the new parts should not be suspect.

In the hopes of fixing the clutch slip a few weeks ago I shimmed the slave back, but did not change anything.

Re: LT1 T56 Clutch Problems

There are better experts here than me but IMO as long as the slave and some "play" between it and the fork when the pedal is disengaged there is not much more to do. When I say play I mean it lets the fork come all the way out as needed and it is not holding a little "clutch engaged."

Was there any play at all before shimming or did it feel it was holding some tension on the fork?

IIRC, and I will double check, but the fork doesnt budge when the slave is bolted to the trans. If I grabbed the end of the fork hanging out of the trans.

I wonder if the mistake I made was when I first bought the hydraulics, I cut the "zip tie" holding the slave piston in its compressed state during shipping. So to install, I had to line up the piston and push the slave to get the nuts started. Could I have introduced air into the system at that time?
