lost all foward gears but have reverse? What to do?
I finally got my motor running good enough to take it up the road. I have a 700r4 I bought from a member off here. It was suppose to be built for 750HP. In the beginning it felt like it slipped a few times I thought it was the higher stall than I'm used to. After about 5 miles I made a half throttle pull and about 3,500-4,000 rpms I heard a pop and I no longer have any forward gears but was able to get it home in reverse.
Has anyone experienced this? I would think a stock 700r4 could've handled the pull I made. My research has me leaning toward forward sprang clutch or planet gear? If that's the case should I plan the cost of a full rebuild or a few part replacement. I'm debating t-56 if the trans gets too expensive to rebuild

Since you really don't know for certain:
1. If the transmission was really "built".
2. What the definition of "built" is.
3. Who "built" the transmission.
4. How many miles is on the transmission.
I would plan on a complete tear down and inspection for piece of mind. But that's just me. I don't really like R&R'ing transmissions because of something that was missed.
It won't take too much to get the reverse input and input drums out of the case before you find the problem but you still need to know why what ever failed...failed.

Just an update I've disassembled the transmission whoever built it "Fairbanks" may be Raptor now but not sure, didn't put the clips that hold the auxiliary tub back in place. Additionally a couple seals was missing chunks out of them like it was quickly put together. This caused the fluid not to circulate and the rear clutch pack burnt up.
Additionally I found out it had an early 87 vavle body that wouldn't hold up to the hp I need it to.one of the servos was looked out instead of upgraded.
Gotta say Dana from Probuilt has been great about helping me figure out which parts I need to upgrade.
Hopefully it'll have a working 700r4 that'll last within the next few weeks. This is the most indepth I've been in a transmission so wish me luck.

Good to hear you have it sorted out.
I'm finishing up with an '03 4L60E rebuild with a Probuilt HD heavy duty kit. Dana helped me out last week with an input shaft end play issue. His recommendation for a check/fix was spot on. Great guy to work with.
