tail shaft bushing?
How hard are the tail shaft bushing to replace? Iv been having an issue where my car is literally eating the driven speedometer gears. Even after verifying with a few shops that I have the right gear setup. Well talking to a shop yesterday , they said that it seems like my tail shaft bushing is gone or extremely worn because iv gone through 3 gears And it always happens after hitting a bump. They said the driveshaft is moving the tailshaft which is moving my speedo gears in turn shearing my drive gear. Does this sound about correct? All I want is a good working speedometer lol. And Aldo how would I go about cleaning out the old plastic from my driven gears out of the tail shaft and drive gear?

it isn't that hard to replace the bushing on a 700R4 if I remember correctly. Just take out the 4 bolts that holds the tailhousing on the transmission and then remove it. I made a tool out of some aluminum stock to knock the old bushing out and drive the new one in. But I would think the rear seal would be leaking profusely if the driveshaft had that much play in it. Hope you get it figured out

Take the extension housing off and take it to your local transmission shop. They can drive a new one in there for you. Get a new seal while you are at it. The shop can look at the old one and tell you If it is worn out. If not, I would suspect anything in the speedometer cable as suspect. from speedo, cables. something would have to be binding.

Also look at the slip yoke with a straight edge and make sure it is true.
