87 Iroc G92 345 rear end. How rare? and how much?
I bought a 1987 g92 posi rear end with 345 gears and disc brakes complete. The rear end still has the factory tags on the cover and I was wondering how rare they are? and how much should I have paid for it? Seals appear to be good. no leaks.

That is not a particularly common rear end, but not particularly "rare" either.
Value would depend on its actual condition; specifically, whether the cones are wore out such that the posi is no longer effective, whether it needs any of the bearings, etc. Also, it would depend on how common they are in the area you searches; i.e., how wide of a net you cast. Lots of people on here seem to think that an "exhaustive" search consists of looking ONE DAY on CL in their local town of 50,000, and consider 50 miles too far to drive to pick something up. In that case, they're rarer than frog hair and more valuable than nonobtanium. Those of us with more sense however, will use every search tool at our disposal, will be willing to drive whatever distance we can accommodate with a $30 hotel room (big whoooooop) which is around 500-600 miles, and will keep looking for at least 6 months before even beginning to think about considering preparing to look at the possibility of maybe someday starting the process in motion of looking at the option of potentially "giving up".
Those Saginaw brakes SUCK. Personally I wouldn't ever put those on my car unless I had no other choice. TO me, that DRASTICALLY reduces the "value" of that setup. If I wanted a 9-bolt, I'd frankly look for 2 of em; one w a 3 series carrier, and a 89 w the PBR brakes; then I'd buy a se of gears of my choice. But that's just me. Your situation may vary from mine.

Thanks for that info. I tore it down over the weekend and it all checks out good. No bearings are needed but I'll replace the seals anyways... It a Borge Warner rear end and the brakes look new on it so I'm going to reuse them... Paid $250 Canadian for it and I don't think very many are around anymore. Hell just trying to find parts for these cars is difficult at best of times.

If you paid $250 for a 3.45 with a good POSI and "new" looking brakes than you paid a (very) fair price IMO. I spend $400 on my first 3.45 9-bolt back in the 90's. The BW 3.45 9-bolt was only used for 3 years and only installed in manual transmission cars during those 3 years. "Uncommon" ?? Sure; about as uncommon as it gets. ( AKA "rare" ) It seems to be one of the more highly sought after factory Third Generations rear ends.
A FULLY functional POSI means everything to the value of EVERY rear end and especially true when it comes to the 9-bolt. Parts are quite expensive compared to other rear ends and not always 'easy' to find. ( Think I paid about $350 for a new 3-series 9-bolt carrier; 15 years ago. )
Since the 87-88 cars had the iron calipers and only the 89 had the PBR's,.... the 89's are the only ones that would have the specific backing plate used to mount the PBR calipers. The 89 9-bolt specific backing plates are very difficult to locate and always priced at a premium.
P.S. Nice score !

I received a '89 9bolt 3:45 PBR disk rear (with parking brake cables) in part trade for my 62 belair. Discs were complere and good, just needed a bearing and pads. Great change from a 2:73 open, drum rear.
