As the title states. My pan gasket was leaking. I dropped the pan, replaced the gasket with RTV, bolted the pan back up and took it for a test drive. Noticed I had no overdrive.

More background: The trans has a transgo full shift kit in it and has for 4 years. It provides a very firm 1-2 shift and full throttle overdrive capabilities. When I first exited the garage I noticed a very soft 1-2 shift and knew something was up. After a short drive to the main road I realized I had no overdrive. The kit also allows for holding each gear at any rpm so I can manually select each gear so I am 100% sure I have lost overdrive.

Through further testing I have found that the vehicle will barely move at all in 1st gear without additional throttle. I believe it would move quite a bit more prior to the pan drop. All gear shifts seem weak and slow.

In order to fix the issue I have done the following:
1. Remove the trans completely and disassembled the valve body to check for stuck valves. None found
2. Cleaned everything I could see with the pan off and valve body open.
3. Replaced all soft seals for good measure (4th gear servo, 2-3 apply servo.. ect)
4. Installed and refilled fluid to proper level.

None of this had any effect. The symptoms and identical to when I just dropped the pan and made the new gasket. I'm completely at a loss.

The only things I could think of that would cause this and be related to a pan drop would be:
1. Filter not seated properly or cracked causing pump to suck some air with the fluid.
2. Improper fluid level. You are checking it on level ground idling in park, correct?

Did the rtv plug up the servo drain hole?
I have seen that happen a couple of times.

Pro Built Automatics

NEVER use sealant on the pan gasket, as this is what happens when you cover the hole. Make sure the pan is flat and the surfaces are clean and use the duraprene type of gasket and torque it to 65 - 75 inch pounds.
