Re: Shift Cable - Auto; Mod it?
my autozone cable is getting looser and looser and i don't want to get another one.
I shift gears at the track in the burnout box from 1 to 2 to 3 then roll out of the water box. I can only get this autozone cable down to 2nd gear now, won't go into 1st.
I need this new cable like yesterday.
Any way we can take pre-orders to get the supplier to move faster?

Re: Shift Cable - Auto; Mod it?
Here is the latest news:
I have made drawings of new connectors for the bulk heads and sent to the manufacturer for a prototype. Now I just wait for them. These will be more expensive cables than what I sell now because the ends are different and I will also have to supply a new pin for the trans lever.
I dont know how much yet.
I know cost is always a factor, but a quality USA made cable is the goal. Keep you posted as I get more info.

Slight hiccup in manufacturing, but it is addressed. Should have some pics of what the new bulkhead connectors look like, shortly.

Re: Shift Cable - Auto; Mod it?
The prototype is finished. Here is the message sent:
Hi Brian
I finally have a new prototype.
It will require the use of a pin on the lever on the Trans. I believe you are currently using one that you ground down to fit. I have new ones drawn but not made because it remains to be seen the price of these cables.
I am going to get a second one made so if there are issues I still have a sample in hand.
Herb
Again, please don't contact Shiftworks till we have a production piece. Here are two pics of the prototype:

Re: Shift Cable - Auto; Mod it?
Not at all. The end moves in and out of the sheath or tube. I helped him buy the shifter mechanism from this board. He knows what he's doing.
Next step is reduplicating the prototype within tolerances. Then we're good to go.

Re: Shift Cable - Auto; Mod it?
If this cable is adjustable then its a winner. I went through two cables at AutoZone w/ free replacement. Then I found the problem is not the cable. Look at this post #34
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tran...djustment.html
the problem is the trans lever. After adjusting I have not had any issues

That didnt work on mine. New cable is 1\4 to 1\2 too short and old cable would work fine had the plastic had not broken. im still on board with the cable being created

Final prototype in my hands!
Landscape pic clipped the tip off, but it's the same on both ends.

As you can see, the bulkhead connectors are custom made - AND DO ALLOW FOR SOME ADJUSTMENT ON THE THREADS!!!!

Re: Shift Cable - Auto; Mod it?
looks promising! How long until it goes into production? I have this 89 IROC-Z that's been asleep since 2001. And where do we go to place an order?

Re: Shift Cable - Auto; Mod it?
Here's the final prototype in the car. Here you can see the new bulkhead connector fits without the "keeper."
No difference in drive-ability from before. Inspires confidence!
I'll let you know the final details as soon as I get them.

Re: Shift Cable - Auto; Mod it?
I tried searching threads and this was the closest to my issue. I’m working on a 1937 Chevy 2 door sedan street rod. It has the drive train out of a 1996 police interceptor Camaro. It was hard to shift into park with the steel transmission pan on it. I’ve put an aluminum finned trans pan on with the newer blue silicone gasket and now it won’t go into park unless you really slam it. With the bottom disconnected from the shifter ball at the trans, the cable seems about 3/8-1/2 inch too short with no way to adjust it. I measured the cable and center of eye to center of eye is 28 1/4 inches on the original cable. I’ve already got it pulled out of the vehicle. Thank you for your time, Derrick Bell
