2,000 or 2,500 stall for my combo?
I'm looking at torque converters for my new engine. I found that the Hughes Performance non lock up converters are in my price range. I'm wondering what size I should be going for, 2000 or 2,500? My new engine is a 355 with vortec heads and a LT4 hotcam. Stock 700r4 with an extra cooler, and 3.73's out back. This is my daily driver and will be run on 90 mile highway trips every week. Hughes also has an 1,800 if that's also an option. Any help/opinions are appreciated!

Waste of money imo if you go less than 2500. Stock is 1600-ish. Daily driver for highway use i would buy lockup esp with 3.73's. keep saving if you cant afford it now.
I would rather see 2800-3000 for more street fun but a driver will be fine at 2500. Just wont run as hard at the track if you ever go race it. Alot of people are afraid of alittle converter stall speed. I like abit more stall on my drivers but thats just me. I daily drive 3200 with 3.73's. wish i went bigger but i go to the track often

Could I get away with stock stall while I save up for a different one? What about freeway rpms with these? Say a 3200 without lock up, would the rpms be around 3000 or would they be the regular 2300 i'm at now?

Yes you can drive on stock converter with good tuning. If 3200 and no lock up, rpms wont be up near stall speed unless you are loaded in high gear up hill with moderate throttle. Normal cruise will be higher than a lockup converter but as long as its level grade and light throttle. Like my other cars non lock up flashes 3600 stall. Cruise at 55-60 is in the 2300-2500 rpm range if i remember correctly. Its not terrible but that constant slipping adds heat and that kills trannies. If you can keep it cool it should live. My fluid doesnt get to hot on 45 min drives. However as said above lockup helps mileage
