GM 10 BOLT 3.23 DIFF WONT UNLOCK
NOW MY DIFF WONT UNLOCK WHEN I DRIVE AROUND CORNERS. DAM. IS THERE A WAY I CAN PULL (OR REPLACE) THE SPRING PLATES WITH THE REAR END ON THE CAR TO LET THE DIFF WORK WHEN THE CAR TURNS CORNERS. THE METAL GRINDING/ BINDING NOISE IS MOST NOTICEABLE AND YOU CAN FEEL IT WHEN MANUEVERING IN A PARKING LOT OR BACKING IN SPACE ( WHEN THE CAR IS PIVOTING AND ONE AXLE IS TURNING MUCH SLOWER THAN THE OTHER ) FORTUNATELY I HAVE A DUPLICATE GEARED REAR END FROM MY TRANS AM I CAN USE WHILE I FIX THIS ONE ( AGAIN )

Turn off caps lock and stop shouting.
First, what differential do you have? If it's the Auburn did you use 2 bottles of the GM limited slip oil additive? If not then do that before you do anything else. Drive it for a few days with the additive and see if it helps. Most of the time that will fix it. No need to remove the preload springs. It won't help.

CAPS IS STUK.
USED VALVOLINE 80W-90 GEAR OIL WITH LS ADDITIVE ALREADY INCLUDED IN BOTTLE. INSTRUCTIONS SAY RECO'D FOR CONVENTIONAL AND LIMITED SLIP DIFFS.
THE BINDING IS SEVERE AND VERY LOUD WHEN TAKING TURNS. IF A SIMPLE LS ADDITIVE FIXES THIS I WILL BE A SURPRISED FAT OLD MECHANIC.

No, a substitute will not work. It must be the GM additive. The junk that they sell at the auto parts stores is not worth pouring out on the ground. If you have a factory installed limited slip differential then it is either the Auburn or the Governor Lock. If it has 5 springs in it then it's the Auburn.
Hopefully the cones have not galded to the point where they can not slip easily anymore.

Re: GM 10 BOLT 3.23 DIFF WONT UNLOCK
When you get the additive in there give it a few days to work. Many people recommend making figure 8s in a empty parking lot. If you can get away with that then give it a try. It will help get the additive worked into the cones quicker.

Re: GM 10 BOLT 3.23 DIFF WONT UNLOCK
If you had a Eaton Posi, Yukon Dura Grip, Traction Lock or other limited slip differential then one bottle would be all you need. The Auburn needs 2 bottles.

Now why don't you drive it over to Fry's Electronics and buy a new keyboard for like $5?

Great. I'm glad it worked out for you. I've had a little experience with this stuff. I've been building rear ends for over 31 years and I owned a rear end shop for 15 years, so I've seen this many times. The oil additive almost always fixes the problem.
Something that you need to remember with one of these is that it is very important to keep the air pressure equal in the rear tires at all times and be sure that the treadwear is equal on the rear tires. If one tire is slightly larger than the other it will cause the differential to slip the entire time that you are driving. This will cause rapid wear on the differential and heat the oil.
