1986 camaro 350, 700r4 trans. After market 350, same trans that came with car I believe. Went to repair shop to have a exhaust hanger fixed and while car was racked and running heard noise coming from Torque converter?????. Checked the bolts, tight. Mechanic listened with a scope and he thinks something in converter is loose. I have picked up a vibration since i last dove it at the drag strip.
THIS IS THE QUESTION: I have read on the forum that the early 700r4 were weak. Since I have to pull the trans to get to the converter would I be ahead of the game to replace this trans. It works fine right now.( I think). I have access to a 1989 700r4 thats in a T/A.(purchase) Thinking I may have it gone thru and do some performance up grades. Any suggestions on converter. The engine has some modifications, cam, intake, 750cc, headers. Thinking of 2000 to 2500 stall. I drive the car on the street on occassion. Still have 2.73 gear, was gonna change it until this started, back burner now. Thanks for any advise.
