Ok, maybe not completely bulletproof, but definately capable of handling the 1200 hp I plan on throwing at it. My goal was to make it as strong and light weight as possible. The whole assembly is also pretty easy on the eyes as well.

Started with a Strange light weight 40 spline spool, Strange chromemoly yoke, Strange daytona support and Richmond 4.10 gears. Once I figure out exactly what ratio I will need, I will put a pro gear in it.



All this was installed in an aluminum Yukon 3.25 thru bolted center section. Center section should be good for 1400 hp.



Didnt take any pics of the final pattern, but took away .003 pinion shim from here and tightened backlash from .009 to .008 for a near perfect reading.

As you can see, pattern is a bit high and narrow on the drive side. Less shim brought it closer to the root of the gear and widened the pattern a bit.

All of this is going in a Burkhart chassis fabricated chromemoly housing. Its not as light as I had hoped, but does include an anti roll bar, tie down hooks and adjustable LCA brackets.



I then welded (nervously) tabs for the brake lines and a mount for the main brake hose and bent up some brake lines for it. Calipers are mounted temporarily until I get axles. Axles are Mark Williams gun drilled 40 spline superlights. Should be here mid-week. I will update with their exact weight and weight of entire assembly when they arrive. Should be well under 200 lbs.

Are you going to powdercoat it before it goes in the car?

I did that with my quicke performance 9" and couldn't be happier I did.

Looks great! BTW, my 9" with iron center, disk brakes, and full of oil weighed in at 249lbs. Talk about a heavy friggin' axle...you're on the right track keeping it light.

Im trying to find somewhere local that does hydrographics with a big enough tank to dip it in. Id like to get it in carbon fiber or something similar. If that doesnt work then I will paint or powdercoat it. It will be a shame to hide those pretty welds tho....

Wondering why you went aluminum if you are wanting it as strong as money can buy. When aluminum is as strong as steel aluminum is heavier. It is a gorgeus rear though. Are you going to be putting some kind of 1500hp turbo big block in front of it? I went with parts from a nascar team since they usually use the best or close to it. I learned that they polish there gears (called REM) and I got a set of polished 3.75 gears (less than $100) a detroit locker (less than 200) 1350 yolk with pulley for pump cooler and 2002 trans am rear disc $100. My housing come from autoweldchassis.com. They make housings like you have on a custom order basis.

The aluminum section should be good to 1400 hp. It weighs 16 lbs with the caps and bolts. I only plan to make around 1200 so I should be good. If I step it up, I would get a Mark Williams pro mod aluminum case. I probably should have gotten that to start with, as its only about $300 higher, assembled, then what I have in mine, but I enjoy building every piece on the car, and I know its done right.

Im building the car to run in a local 275 drag radial class. It will have a turbo LS motor. Need to run around a 5.30 in the 1/8th. Since it is a heads up class, I need to make every pound count. Thats the reason for the aluminum case and CM housing.

It should be in a magazine and possibly powder coated the same color as the car. Looks like Darth Vadors rear in his new tie fighter.

Axles came in. Weigh 33 lbs for the pair. This brings the total to 186 lbs dry. Not too bad.





Rear is in. I will install axles and button up the brakes tomorrow.
