Engine: 5.7l TPI
Transmission: 700R4
Axle/Gears: 3.73
88 iroc-z 5.7l/700r4 (wanting to make 5-speed.)
Is swapping out my 700r4 for a 5-speed trans Just to much work in an automatic car?

As someone that has done it, its not terrible. It takes a bit. Just make sure you have the parts in line before you start. PS finding a good WC T5 is getting harder and harder to find, also make sure you get one with the correct setup for the speedo, elec or mechanical.

If you have a hard time finding a good T5 then consider looking for a t56 6 speed from an LT1. It is stronger than a T5. That is what I ended up doing. Couldn't find a T5 so I got a T56.
It is a fair amount of work but a standard tranny is sooo much more fun.
