Need help my identifying my transmission
I have an 88 Firebird that was a 305 tbi and its has an automatic transmission. I know that these cars came with a 700r4, it seems like my car has 5 gears. I count the gears. I start at the drive position, it would shift 4 times, then I would put it to overdrive and the rpm would drop some more as it seems like it went to another gear.
I need to know if this is normal?

Torque converter lockup feels like another gear. When cruising in OD tap the brake pedal. The RPM's should jump about 300 and fall again when the pedal is released. Thats your torque converter unlocking and locking.
