Has anyone done this? Old school 4 speed manual
Has anyone installed an older style 4 speed manual transmission in there cars?
I have a munsty rock crusher trans at my step-dads just laying there.. also have a munsty top loader. I know i'll have to change from an electric speedo to a mechanical speedo, witch is GREAT (for my set up)
I just want to know if anyone has done this, and what all it takes. My big concern is how i would mount up the torque arm.
My goal is to ditch all the electronic junk in my car as most of it is going haywire now and im tired of messing with it.

Your hardest part may be the clutch fork. I don't know if the T5 bellhousing will work with the older transmission. The T5 bellhousing has the opening for the clutch fork at an angle to clear the floor. The older transmissions have the opening straight off the side which will put the clutch fork where your right foot sits.

Thanks AlkyIROCK, that would be something to look into
Thank you 3rdgenmaro, also sorry for my spelling on that, i had only gotten 3 hours sleep after working 20 hours....
I will keep looking around and see if anyone has done any mods to the t5 bell houseing, and see if anyone has done this swap.

You could easily get an aftermarket bellhousing, which would keep the transmission straight (rather than at the angle like the T5 is). Then use a hydraulic TO bearing for ease of clutch actuation.
The shifter would be weird. I doubt any aftermarket Muncie shifter would fit smoothly into our cars, and there aren't any 3rd gen aftermarket shifters for the Muncie trans. The BW T-10's Hurst shifter is different, and i'm not sure if Hurst makes one for the Saginaw - which probably wouldn't fit anyway.
As sofa might say --- WHY? Those transmissions are ancient junk by now anyway. A Tremec TKO500 would work great, and require less changes- and you'd get to keep overdrive

Re: Has anyone done this? Old school 4 speed manual
Id only use these old transmissions for the fact i have them lol.
I was going to go with a t56 but I want to get rid of ALL the electrical junk in the car. No electrical speedo, temp, oil, volt, or tack.. as non of it works in my car right now anyway. I also want to do a custom dash and for an aftermarket speedo for an electric speedo is $300 or more!.. A gear drive speedo is only $50, and it will match the rest of my aftermarket gauges. I was looking into a part that would convert the electric set up to a gear style gauge... I may end up going this rout, but with all the wireing fryed in my car, gear drivin parts are the best bet for me right now.
