T5 swap on 4th gen with an LT1
First off, I know this is a 3rd gen board. In my experience here there seems to be many people knowlegable beyond 3rd gens so I'm thinking you can help.
Second, I know the T5 is weak, and is never recomended to use behind a 350. I'm sure I'm going to hear about it even though I already know this.
Now, I have the whole T5 setup from a 3rd gen (actually almost 2 whole setups), and I'm tired of the auto trans on my 94' T/A. I've been thinking of selling the parts I have and getting a T56 swap, but I'll still come up short on $$$ because of how much the T56's are going for. So with that being said, I'm looking for information about what all from the T5 will fit in my 4th gen. From what I've been reading, it seems like almost everything will fit. My areas of concern are the torque arm mount, and the speed sensor. Anyone see any other problems (beside the weak T5), or coments on the torque arm and speed sensor?
For the record, I would be using a WC T5, and also I'm pretty sure the crossmember is different.

The t5 uses the same crossmember as the auto, the torque arm will mount up fine. The speed sensors are way different, im sure there is a way though.

thanks for the info
For the speedometer, I was just thinking how V6 4th gens had the T5 available. I wonder if I can use parts from one of those? Anybody know?

Re: T5 swap on 4th gen with an LT1
If the rearmost bearings on the counter & mainshaft are the same between 88-92 F and the 4th gen V6 T5, and the shift rail is the same length, the V6 4th gen tailhousing should work. There's something that makes the NWC and WC tailhousings not interchange IIRC.
I'm assuming the V6 4th gen T5 uses a VSS location that points straight at the mainshaft instead of being offset for speedo gear use like the third gens.
Keep waiting for the right deal to come up on the LT1 T56 IMO.

i have a T-5 in my LT-1 power 87....i've heard all about the "weakness" of this gearbox too.....but mines been to 6 or 8 open track days around road courses where it's been shifted pretty hard.......no problems yet! I'm waitin.....but in the meantime, she's fine! if you can figure out your speedo issues, you should be fine.......you don't have drag slicks right? no plans for wheelies?

No slicks, but the rears are 295/35R18's. BFG KDWS2's. I think I'd need to be pretty careful haha.
Looks like I've got a winter project. I don't think the swap should be too hard, but this speedometer has me stumped right now. Worst case... no speedometer

I wonder if I could use this

I still have the vss for the T5. Maybe I could splice this in?

I can't wait to jump into this swap now. Only problem is, I just started driving the car recently after 5 months stranded in my garage for for paint. (changed from black to white).
