transmission crossmember

I have a 91 rs with the 3.1 v6 and t5. my trans mount is bad and its the liquid filled damper version that is only available through the deal and was quoted to me for 229 dollars. I refuse to pay that much for a stock mount that will go out again. I have and idea for a remedy, though, and after a good amount of searching this forum, I could not find verification for my idea so I decided to post what I am going to try and do and see if anyone has tried this with any success/failure. It seems like the crossmembers in these cars are the same except for the ones in these later rs v6 cars. I was going to get the energy suspension mount and a normal style crossmember that accepts this mount, like one under a 700-r4 car or 2.8 car. Will this work? are there any better solutions to my problem I have not yet thought of? any input would be appreciated

Welcome to TGO.

Yes. Your idea is one that other members have used. Before you purchase a poly mount, you might read the following:

Re: transmission crossmember

Thanks for the welcome. I am familiar with the problems that can sometimes happen with the energy suspension mounts, I have had four camaros before this one, well three and a trans am, all of which were 305/700r4 combinations. I ended up using said mount with all of them and one of which i had to not use the spacer provided. That part I am not too concerned with. What I am wanting to make sure of is that if I go to the junk yard and grab a trans crossmember off of a random third gen f body, that everything will be a bolt on affair, such as the mount bolting to my t5 and the crossmember bolting to both the body and the mount. This is actually the first time I have seen one of these cars with anything different than what I have been used to seeing. Thanks again for all your help and input

Re: transmission crossmember

With the exception of the cross member with the fluid mount and the mount with the secondary cross member, all should fit as you desire. The following may be useful:

Any standard cross member from a T5 or a 700R4 will work.

Re: transmission crossmember

thats a relief. I just knew that there had to be a way around that fluid damper mount that is in there now. I think once I get it done i will take pictures and post the whole process on here in hopes that it may help others like myself. When I just did searches on here and google I did not come up with a whole lot.
