aftermarket servo reinstall problem!

Over the winter I decided to pull my engine to fix a rear main leak, and a few other things. Also last summer I bought a Tran-go kit from Dana Transmissions, but decided to wait til the winter to do the Corvette servo upgrade that came with the kit. I already put a vette servo in years ago, so Danna just sent me a couple of springs and O'rings for the upgrade. So yesterday I thought now is a good time do the vette servo upgrade since I could just sit in the engine bay and work on it. Well apparently I bought a Superior # K012, 700R4 Super Servo that I don't even remember buying, and I don't even have the instructions for anymore. So I found a couple of scanned pictures of the instructions on the internet, and I noticed I did not put it together per the instructions the first time. After I put it together the right way and tried to re-install it, I now have problems trying to get the outside retaining ring clip back on the outside cover. I then read that I may need to grind down the servo pin up to .150th's. Which did try and I still can't get the cover retaining clip back on. Has anyone had this problem, also what do they mean exactly by correct band adjustment. I also still have the stock 4th servo on it could this be causing the clearance problem, and/or should I just upgrade to a aftermarket 4th servo?

Re: aftermarket servo reinstall problem!

Wow you just gave me haunting memorys of when I did mine. I had the very same problem about 2 years ago.... I cussed everything in the world out...
I'm sorry i can't remember perfectly, but I think what I did was take it apart and put it in section by section to see what was blocking me from being able to put the clip in behind the cover.
Make sure the servo cover also fits in alone for testing. Once you figure out whats blocking you, you should be ok... Damn I wish I could remember what it was, I want to say it was something simple or i didn't have enough pressure on the cover to snap it in. Did you lube the o-ring? try it with out the orings for testing. maybe thats what it was the o-rings were stiff and I needed to apply more pressure... Give that a try and let me know.

FYI I'm a little rusty, but when you put in the SERVO it naturally applies pressure to the band so it should be tight (like what you are seeing), i think you just in to lube the o-rings and apply a good amount of pressure so it tightens the band and then slap the ring in place...

BTW is the trans pan off or the did you modify the VB or is it just the Vette Servo you are upgrading only?

Re: aftermarket servo reinstall problem!

I've done mine a few times for various reasons but I remember that when the cover goes on you should be able to press the cover in by hand and put the clip ring in place. I rememebr something in the intructions that say that there should be some spring tension on the servo pin that you can feel when you press the cover in.

If the pin is not going in straight that could cause it but you have to remember the pin fit in before - it goes against a little hook in the band end and depending maybe the band moved down and the pin end is not fitting in the pocket of the band but at the end "hook" If you can I would look into the hole and see if anything moved..inside

Re: aftermarket servo reinstall problem!

Thanks for the responses guys!
I ended up calling Danna at Pro-Built who setup me up originally with my Trans. After talking to him about the issue extensively, I decided to re-set it up corvette style. So Danna sent me the OEM parts I would need in addition to the parts he already sent me to complete it for the up-grade. Danna said that the billet servos I have are over-kill for the H.P. I would be putting out. So well see if this fixes my problem with not only the clearance issue, but I have had shifting problems when I get on it hard. Which I did find is my own stupidity, because while talking to Dana we determined I had installed the servos & springs improperly the last time I put it together. Which to this day I still don't remember putting in billet servos, I thought they were Corvette servos. Anyhow I'm actually surprised it shifted as well as it did, although I do recall many times questioning my self as to did it shift into 4th or not?
So well see what happens!
