700r4 rebuild or not

hi all i have a question for the tranny experts,my 700r4 raptor jr tranny finny took a dive on me after new motor install .had it about 8-9 years well 3-4 clutches went out just like it did in my original tranny.would it be wise to just replace the clutches or redo the whole thing ? i was thinking of putting a th350 in but i do like my overdrive . i have 2 tranny's with the same problem.. any thoughts would be appreciated . oh almost forgot the raptor jr was supposed to have the upgraded stronger parts than my original .

1st thing you need to decide for yourself is if you love that overdrive enough to keep it and then you can start looking at new transmissions with that gear. If you do alot of highway driving then the overdrive will be useful and better on gas. If you use the car more on the street then a good solid TH350 or even a 400 turbo would be a good deal for the car.

i don't drive it far ,but this summer i might put on a road trip. the cost to rebuild the 700r4 around here will cost me 900 or better ,thats why i never bothered rebuilding the first one. i have alot more power now also with my new engine .iv'e got one tranny guy telling me to just replace the bad parts and be done and another wants a complete rebuild. im am weighing my options though.

If I were in your shoes I'd just buy a completely new transmission and if you're only doing road trips like this once in awhile I'd go with a TH350 or 400 turbo as the street driving will be more common. I've found also complete new transmissions around here for the 700r4's that are built up and beefed up selling for between $500 to $2,000. I suppose you get what you pay for.

Re: 700r4 rebuild or not

In case you wonder how the 700 raptor level 3 is built now for 2295$ (basic converter included).

Looks like your much less expensive 700r4 raptor jr was built much better for sure.
