what to put behind my 454
okay so im prett much just getting flustered now. i wanted to put the original t5 behind my 454 but the flywheel wont fit under the bell housing. well ive pretty much put the head aches of a manual tranny behind me. well i have a 400 turbo laying around but ita a nine inch tail housing. my buddys got a couple of 350 turbos and i could get a short tail 400 if needed. i'm just trying to go for the easiest swap possible but i'd like to know all i would need in terms of putting an automatic trans in. just some info my cars an 88 original 305 5 speed, the motor i'm putting in is a 454 out of a 79 2500 truck. stock so pretty weak power wise. let me know what you guys think. thanks alot -jake

Re: what to put behind my 454
I used a long tail TH350 behind my 454. Worked with a stock 700R4/T5 driveshaft.

The long tailshaft TH350 will be the easiest swap but behind a 454, I'd recommend finding some way to use the TH400. A new crossmember with an aftermarket torque arm helps with the swap. You just need to get the driveshaft shortened.
I've used them both but finally installed a powerglide. My BBC is drag race only with a lot of torque so I don't need a lot of gears.
