Tranny cross member nuts in frame striped. Need help on how to replace them.
I have an 86 Camaro and the the nuts that are in cased in the frame 2 of them are striped and I need to replace them. Can anyone give me points on the best way to replace them? Thanks for your time.

Mine also striped so I replaced all 4 with Helicoils. I think they are 10mm but take one bolt to the autoparts or hardware store to match up the threads. The kit is the way to go.

typically what done is you drill out the captured nut to a slightly larger size, and re-tap the hole. I think 7/16 is what usually used, not positive.

I have one or two tapped out for a 7/16...been holding great for years. Helicoil might be sketchy due to the lack of super long thread engagement(typically I think of helicoils for cast type parts)...but if its working for this guy it must work...I just never thought much about it.
