Sixth to fifth problems
I'm a PLT SGT currently deployed to Iraq and one of my Soldiers told me about a problem he started having prior to us deploying. He told me all the gears shift next higher gear and hold strong, but the problem is when he tries to downshift from sixth to fifth it won't go into fifth. To get it into fifth he has to go to fourth then into fifth. Once he does that it goes smoothly into fifth. I put a T56 into my 91 and have a T56 in my 99 and never experienced any thing of this nature. Can any of you give us some knowledge as to where he needs to start checking once we get back? Thanks in advance.

It's more common than you think. My thoughts are that it either a worn 5th-gear blocker ring on high mileage units, and/or a combination of too-loose shimming specs on the 5/6/R extension shaft. (as I posted in the above thread)

Re: Sixth to fifth problems
Wow thanks man, I have never heard of or read anything of that nature. I'll let my Soldier know about that post and let him take it from there. Again, thanks.
