t56 short throw for $30 ebay?

so i just swapped in a t56 and the stock shifter has already driven me crazy in the first 50 miles and im looking at a short throw

i assume this one of those "you get what you pay for items"?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/93-02...Q5fAccessories

has anybody tried one? i had a hurst comp plus on my t5 and it was pretty nice and i got it for about $125 thought it to be well worth the money.. i know many say the pro 5.0 is the best but $$$$ $185+ i find this hard to justify because i really dont race my car. or beat on it that much

its just a healthy cruiser, but after having a more precise short throw, the factory lt1 t56 shifter is garbage and i will not keep it... i can get a comp plus for 93-02 f-body t56 for about $130 and am leaning that way based on my experience with my t5 comp plus

so again my question is has anyone tried the ~$30 ebay item i listed above?

If I was going to lay out a good chunk of change for a shifter I'd probably get the MGW

http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/manual...y-shifter.html

I wouldnt waste money on that ebay shifter....Get a short stick and be done with it if your not looking to throw a bunch of cash at it right now.
There is plenty of short stick options, TNA Short Stick (on ebay), Lou's SS, WS6 store, UMI and so on.

Re: t56 short throw for $30 ebay?

i saw a couple of the short stick things, but i dont think that is really going to help me... it feels like the slop is in the shifter base.... prolly gonna grab the comp plus i saw, since i highly doubt there is anything resembleing quality in the $30 ebay shifter

Actually removing the stock shifter with the rubber bushing in it and installing a short stick might remove some slop. The short sticks dont have the bushing in them.

Either way, you're probably right about doubting there is anything resembling quality in the $30 ebay shifter. Those are probably better paper weights then shifters lol

i had one of those. I bought it when i put my t56 in and let me tell you, the fitment on the transmission was good and the shifts were nice BUT if you plan on using a center console you will have to bend the living crap out of it to get it to fit. the factory shifter stick is not in the center but instead to the side. if you look at this one its just a straight piece of stick.

i had to heat it and bend it, by the time i was done it looked like a roller coaster but it worked fine. After using it for a while and taking it to the track the plastic bushing that comes in it started to wear out and when shifting to 3rd the shifter ball would slip out of the transmission hole.

At the track when i wanted to shift from 2nd to 3rd fast, it was a bitch, i almost always missed 3rd.

So i got tired of it and ditched that POS and went with a pro 5.0 shifter. i did pay close to 200 for it but its the best shifter i have ever bought, great quality and ive been to the track with the new shifter and 20+ passes later i have yet not missed a single shift..

If you cant afford a quality part right now just keep the factory one, you will not feel a diference if you go with the shitty ebay one as far as shifting goes.

In conclusion. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY. try to find a good one like a pro 5.0 or similar used. just my .02
